Connecting aluminum heating radiators: project, preparatory

Heating

Recently, aluminum radiators have become widespread among homeowners. Their installation is easier than installing cast-iron radiators, but also has some nuances. Therefore, below we consider in detail how to properly connect an aluminum radiator in a private house.

Aluminum radiator

General information

First of all, it should be said that aluminum batteries have many advantages over cast iron:

  • Heat transfer is much more.
  • Have less weight.
  • Possess a more attractive appearance.

However, it should be noted that these devices are not designed for high pressure, which is available in centralized heating systems. Therefore, the scope of their application is limited to autonomous systems.

Single Pipe Connection

Connection

Project

If the arrangement of the heating system is performed from scratch, then the process of connecting the batteries begins with the execution of the wiring diagram.

At this stage, you need to decide on the following points:

  • The number of radiators used;
  • Location of heating devices;
  • Type of connection scheme.
Twin tube connection

It should be noted that the connection scheme of aluminum radiators, as, indeed, any other batteries, there are three types:

Type of circuit Special features
Single pipe All heating devices are connected in series, as a result of which the coolant heats up all the previous ones before it reaches the last radiator in the circuit. Accordingly, heating is uneven.

This scheme is suitable for small houses where a small number of radiators are used in the system. In this case, it is easier to install it yourself, and also saves money on materials.

Twin tube In this case, the batteries are also connected in series, however, the hot coolant and “return flow” flow through different pipes. Due to this, heating devices are heated more evenly, which allows using it for medium-sized houses.
Collector This scheme is the most efficient, since all batteries are connected in parallel through the collector. However, the costs in this case greatly increase, since it is necessary to purchase at least two collectors, as well as a significantly larger number of pipes, the price of which is usually quite high.
Collector circuit

When deciding how to connect an aluminum radiator, you should consider the size of the housing, the number of rooms, their area, etc. Having decided on the type of the scheme, you must display all the elements of the heating system on paper. It is advisable to use a house plan for this.

After drawing up such a project, you can count the number of materials needed, which include pipes, fittings and valves. At this stage, you can calculate all the costs associated with the arrangement of heating.

An example of marking the wall under the battery

Preparatory work

Before you connect aluminum radiators, you need to do some preparatory work:

  • First of all, the marking of the walls in the areas where the batteries will be mounted.
  • Next is the installation of the heat pipe. It should be noted that it is desirable to determine its location even before purchasing batteries.
  • For example, if you plan to hide the pipes in the floor, then in this case, the best option would be an aluminum radiator with a bottom connection. If the pipeline will pass through the wall, then you can buy devices with lateral connection. The pipeline is supplied to the locations of the radiators according to the diagram. The process of its installation depends on the type of pipes. They can be connected by compression fittings, threaded connections or welding.
  • Then you need to release the instruments themselves from the packaging, install the Mayevsky cranes and other elements. Detailed information on their preparation contains the scheme, which is available in the kit.

Note! Protective polyethylene film should be removed only after installation of the devices and their connection to the heat conductor.

After that, you can proceed directly to the installation and connection of radiators.

Bracket position check

Installation and connection

When installing radiators it is important to correctly position them.

According to the SNiP, the following requirements must be met:

  • The distance from the floor of the device should be 10-15 cm.
  • The distance to the wall is not less than 2 cm and not more than 5 cm.
  • The distance to the window sill is at least 10 cm.

Installation instructions for aluminum radiators are as follows:

  • First you need to mark on the wall the location of the mounting holes of the brackets. Their location is necessary to check the building level.
  • Further in the designated places you need to drill the holes with a drill or a punch.
  • Then it is necessary to hammer dowels into the holes, install brackets and fix them with dowel-nails.
  • The position of the brackets must be checked once again by the construction level, and only after that the heatsink itself can be hung on them.

  • Next, at the inlet and outlet of the battery adapters are installed, to which the pipes are brought. In some cases, a control valve is screwed into the inlet. All threaded connections must be airtight, for this they need to be sealed with a fum-tape or linen threads and heat-resistant sealant. As a rule, ball valves are installed before and after the exit, as well as a bypass is performed. This method of tying allows you to block the flow of coolant into the battery without disconnecting the heating system, which may be required for various reasons.
  • After completing all the connections, the system must be filled with coolant. Moreover, the cranes must be opened smoothly, so that there are no water hammer inside the devices.
  • Then you need to turn on the heating and make sure that there is no leak in the places of the threaded connections.

Tip! To increase the efficiency of radiators, before installing them on the wall, penofol should be fixed, which will reflect heat to the room.

Here, perhaps, all the basic information on how to connect aluminum radiators in a private house. The only thing that should be noted is that it is not always possible to fix the appliances on the walls, for example, if the latter are made of foam concrete or even drywall. In this case, the batteries are installed on the floor using special racks.

Conclusion

Connecting aluminum radiators is not much different from installing a different type of battery. The most important thing in this operation is to correctly make the wiring diagram and ensure the tightness of all joints. To cope with this task is within the power of every home craftsman who has faced with the repair of heating systems or plumbing.
