Flat radiators: an overview of the varieties and features of

Heating

Currently, flat radiators are becoming increasingly popular. However, this is not surprising, since this category of heaters is perfectly combined with modern window sills, which do not go far beyond the wall.

In addition, the installation of flat heaters can do with the use of wire eaves slightly carried forward. Well, finally, small-thickness radiators look neat, and therefore will surely fit into any interior.

Main varieties

Flat heating devices are easy to distinguish from traditional sectional analogues in appearance. The front side of the devices is a one-piece panel, sometimes smooth, often a corrugated panel with or without perforations.

Model with a smooth surface

Conventionally, all heating devices classified as flat can be divided into the following types:

  • wall panel batteries with heated water as a coolant;
  • oil electric heaters with the possibility of mounting on the wall or with the floor layout;
  • electric convectors with wall and floor layout.

All these heaters, despite the obvious differences, are characterized by small thickness, which greatly simplifies their installation on the wall. Consider the features of the device and operation of each of these modifications.

Panel batteries

The photo shows an example of a compact installation of a flat heater.

This category of equipment, in the first place, should include a flat steel radiator, which today can be purchased at most specialized shops.

Externally, such devices are a rectangular plate, in the upper part of which there is a perforation necessary to release heated air. Inside the casing are metal tubes with radiator plates.

Due to the circulation of coolant through the tubes, warm air is partially released, passing through the top perforation, and partially heats the front metal surface, which, in turn, also releases heat to the room.

Steel flat heating radiator in the cut

The panel steel radiator is mainly intended for installation in autonomous heating systems and is not recommended for operation in centralized systems.

The fact is that the device is designed to work with a low pressure of the coolant, not more than 10 atmospheres at a temperature of not more than +100? C. Nevertheless, the statistics of operation of panel steel batteries shows that such devices are successfully used in apartment buildings.

Important: A serious threat to steel batteries is the specific composition of the coolant in the centralized heating system. The presence of reagents in the circulating water can accelerate the course of corrosive processes.

Oil electric heaters

Flat oil cooler with wall and floor layout

There are two types of oil heaters on the market: sectional and panel. We are interested in a flat panel modification with the possibility of wall or floor installation.

This heater differs from other batteries in that it uses mineral oil, rather than water, as the coolant. This solution has a characteristic advantage, since the oil cools down longer in comparison with water and, as a result, releases heat longer.

Panel oil coolers have the following advantages:

  • Low power consumption, in comparison with spiral electric heaters.
  • It does not dry the air and, as a result, comfortable living conditions in the room.
  • The low temperature of the heated surface and, as a result, the absence of the risk of getting burned if it is not carefully touched.
  • A wide range of heaters on sale and, as a result, the possibility of choosing a device with suitable dimensions.
  • Affordable price.
  • Relatively light weight and, as a result, the possibility of mounting on any walls.
  • Simple installation instructions, and therefore it is possible to do the installation by hand.

Important: Due to its independence from heating systems, such heaters can be installed not only in apartments used for permanent residence, but also in suburban seasonally used houses.

Wall mounted electric convector

Electric convector in the cottage interior

Listing flat thin radiators, it is necessary to mention electric heating convectors. These devices are also commercially available in a wide range of modifications, which are distinguished by price, sizes, power consumption, design of heating elements, etc.

Unlike the traditional radiator, in which one or another heat carrier circulates, this device uses heating elements that transfer heat to metal plates, which, in turn, release this heat through the slots in the upper part of the protective casing.

Electric convector in the interior of a modern apartment

In the process of convection air device can quickly warm the room. This category of heaters is universal in terms of operation, but, nevertheless, it is the best choice for cottages, where accommodation is sporadic.

So, we have decided on the main types of flat heating devices that can be used in an apartment or a country house. In conclusion, we consider in more detail the features of the selection of panel radiators in relation to a particular dwelling.

Features of the choice of steel panel batteries

When choosing steel radiators should pay attention to the labeling.

The marking can detect the following letter symbols:

  • kv - lower connection type;
  • k - side connection type.

In addition to the lettering, there are numerical values in the marking:

  • 11 - type of batteries with one external heating surface.
  • 21 - type with two heating panels and one heat exchanger through which coolant circulates.
  • 22 - type with two panels and two heat exchangers in between.
  • 33 - type with three panels and three heat exchangers.

So, with the marking we decided, but what to choose?

For use in apartments of a standard layout, the twenty-first type of radiator will be the optimal choice. This choice is due to the small thickness, acceptable heat transfer and low cost.

Ratio of height and length of panel radiators of 21 types with power parameters

Let's try to calculate the heat transfer device 1 m long.

As we see in the table, this parameter is approximately 1.5 kW. At the same time, you need to understand that this value is only possible if the coolant is heated to +90? С.

In fact, the temperature of the coolant in a centralized system is much lower, and therefore the real heat transfer will be not indicated in the table 1.5 kW, and not more than 1 kW. Thus, if for normal heating of the room there is enough battery power of 1.5 kW, we are not limited to installing one radiator, in the passport of which the power we need is spelled out.

In order not to freeze in the winter, it is better to put not one, but two such radiators. Or, if the configuration of the room allows, we install a single panel with a length of 1600 mm and this will be enough to create comfortable climatic conditions.

Conclusion

Now we know what a flat single-row heating radiator is and we can choose a heating appliance that is suitable in all respects. In order to learn more interesting things, we suggest watching the video in this article.
