Gas heating - cheap, efficient, reliable

Heating

If you do not live in the tropics, then you can’t do without heating in a cold season. Heating with gas is hardly a novelty; a man learned to burn natural gas for heating more than a dozen years ago. Nevertheless, the evolution of heating systems did not stop, the result was the emergence of interesting heating systems, for example, infrared gas heating, the principle of operation of which is fundamentally different from the operation of a conventional boiler.

Gas is most often used for heating.

Is the game worth the candle

When selecting heating, it is necessary to compare 3-5 practically equivalent options; quite often people are confronted with the choice of what kind of heating to choose gas or electric.

In the final selection, you need to consider the following parameters:

  • cost (taking into account not only the cost of installation, but also how much the heating operation will cost);
  • the complexity of installation and operation, appliances for gas heating will require some skills during installation;
  • infrastructure requirements, for example, electric heating is illogical in areas where there are problems with the supply of electricity.
On the chart - a comparison of the cost of different types of heating

From the point of view of cost, natural gas is simply out of competition, but given the ease of installation and operation, electric heating is often a direct competitor. The deciding factor in the issue of gas or electric heating to choose is the infrastructure of the construction area. If there are constant interruptions in the gas supply, the pressure in the line jumps, or there is a suspicion of impurities in the gas, it is better to give preference to an electrical analogue.

About universality of gas heating

Most people think in a rather stereotyped way and with the phrase “heating with gas” the imagination immediately slips a picture of a gas boiler, distributing work on the walls and radiators under the windows. In fact, this is only one of many options for heating homes.

In general, such variants of gas heating systems can be distinguished:

  • gas heating - suitable for country houses;
If the settlement is not gasified, then a large plastic container can be used as a personal gas storage.

Note! For country houses, this may be the only option, because there may simply not be any power lines or gas pipelines nearby, and it is too expensive to heat a house with electricity from a generator.

  • hydrogen heating - in this case, electricity will still be consumed; without it, it is impossible to organize the combustion of hydrogen, if in this case it is not possible to heat the house with gas, then the heating system can always be supplemented, for example, by installing solar convectors on the roof;

  • using a gas boiler - in this case, the heating system will resemble a centralized one with the only difference that the boiler will be located within the house;
  • compact devices for zone heating became popular recently - gas infrared heating. Such devices create a comfortable microclimate in the place where the person is;
  • if there is no gas pipeline at hand, then you can produce gas for heating with your own hands - a kind of biofuels, this will also solve the issue of waste disposal. Read more about "waste-free production" - further in the article.

Types of gas heating

Each of the above types of gas heating has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. For example, biogas enterprising summer residents often use to heat greenhouses. Given this, it is worth a closer look at each of these types of heating.

Heating system

It is installed quite often in private construction. At the same time, gas is supplied centrally, but all the rest of the equipment, in particular the boiler, is located within the house.

Note! With such an organization of heating will still have to deal with distributing pipes in the apartment. So, if they do not fit into the interior, and there is no possibility to hide them, then it makes sense to think about another method of heating.

Heating scheme using a powerful boiler

Pay attention to the fact that

  • you will have to arrange a chimney to bring the products of combustion out of the room;
  • The main gas heating equipment for the house in this case is the boiler. In addition to heating, it can also be used to provide hot water (2-loop models).
Schemes 2-circuit boilers

Attention requires the installation of the boiler, it is not always possible to put it in any room:

  • with power up to 60 kW there are no special restrictions;

Note! The minimum amount of space for the installation of the boiler - 15.0 m3. If the power is more than 70 kW, then to the minimum volume of the room you need to add 0.2 m3 for each kW of excess.

  • in the house should be organized normal ventilation. Air exchange rate - 3-fold replacement of the air volume in the room per hour.

Special attention is given to such an element as a gas burner for heating - it is this that ensures the combustion of fuel, and hence the normal operation of the boiler as a whole. Pyrozorozhig burners can not depend on electricity is often used in country houses.

Domestic boiler burner

But the burner with electronic ignition can significantly reduce gas consumption. The fact is that the gas in such a system does not burn constantly, the electronics monitors the temperature change of the heat exchanger and ignites the gas periodically in order to maintain the temperature of the coolant at a certain level.

Individual gas heating should be as cheap as possible, therefore, if there are no problems with electricity, then it is preferably piezo ignition.

Hydrogen heating

When the question arises, how to heat a house if there is no gas, attention should be paid to hydrogen. Recently, the use of hydrogen has been heard most often in the context of automotive issues, but this gas can also be used for home heating.

Among the advantages of using this gas can be separately identified:

  • heating the house with gas becomes absolutely harmless - the exhaust in the form of water vapor is harmless to the environment;
  • the composition of the air in the room does not change, because the process proceeds without the use of an open flame;
  • such systems have high efficiency - at the level of 95-96%.

The main task is to produce hydrogen at minimal cost. The main elements of such heating include an installation for electrolysis, which consists of a tank with distilled water, metal plates immersed in this liquid and a source of electricity. When electricity is passed through the cathode and the anode, oxygen and hydrogen are emitted from the water, the resulting gas is used for heating.

The scheme for producing hydrogen for home heating

Studying the theory of hydrogen heating, you can meet the definition of Brown's gas for heating. The presence of oxygen in the composition of the gas (formula - NNO) implies the explosiveness of this substance, therefore, when it is used for heating, safety requirements are increased.

Brown's gas molecule structure

Installation instructions for hydrogen heating requires:

  • lack of stagnant in terms of ventilation places;
  • when using Brown's gas (in the people - a rattler) all the gas produced should be spent immediately, the surplus can be discharged onto the street;
  • good ventilation of the room, it is undesirable installation for the production of rattles placed in the basement.

Note! When Brown's gas is burned, energy is released about 3.8-4.0 times more than is spent on its production, so the benefit is obvious.

In the case of using hydrogen heating, you will not have to think about how much gas is needed to heat the house, because there is almost an inexhaustible source of energy at hand - ordinary water. For reference, 1 liter of water when splitting gives 1866.6 l of rattles, while the energy consumption for electrolysis does not exceed 442.4 kcal / 1 Mole.

Biofuels

Raw materials for the production of biogas are literally underfoot, you can recycle almost any waste, such as manure, tops of agricultural plants, weeds, etc. The main thing is to ensure the process of decay in certain conditions (temperature and humidity are especially important).

The table shows the output of biogas, depending on the raw materials used

Perhaps the reference method to obtain gaseous biofuel can be considered the design proposed by Yuri Davydov.

To obtain biofuels will need:

  • install a few concrete rings in a pit in the street, the bottom of the pit is concreted and a coil for heating is installed in it during the construction phase;
  • from above the well is covered with an iron lid;
  • bump pipe for gas supply.

Inside, not only manure is loaded, but other organic waste, and this mixture is poured with plain water. Humidity should be about 60-70%, in order for fermentation to go more intensively, after the first load inside you need to create a temperature of 35-40? The gas received in a couple of days is quite enough, for example, for heating a bath.

The inventor himself says that after a few days he already used biogas not only for heating and heating water, but also led him to the stove for cooking. So country life has become much easier.

Infrared heating

Such heating is also known as radiant and got its name due to the fact that a person who is in the zone of the heater, it seems that he was hit by the sun's rays. Ideal for large rooms, where from an economic point of view it is foolish to warm the entire volume of air, but smaller models are available for use at home.

Infrared heater device

The principle of operation of the device is quite simple - the gas-air mixture burns in the mixing chamber and heats the ceramic plate. It is the plate that is the converter that turns hot air into heat rays.

It is clear that heating of this type is illogical to use, for example, for heating a greenhouse, the ideal option is to install infrared heaters in industrial workshops where you need to create comfort in the workplace. At home, infrared heating can be used as an addition to existing heating.

Infrared heating ensures uniform heating of the room

Other gas heating options

If the heating of the house is not necessary all the time, for example, the owners come to the country house a couple of times a month, then the gas heating furnace will be very helpful. The choice of structures is large enough - there are also miniature versions on sale, such stoves can be brought along with you, and more solid devices that are lined with bricks.

Miniature gas heater

Such gas heaters work quite simply: the gas burns, the released energy goes to the heating of the air, which supplies the room. If a brick is used in the furnace, then such a construction is more inertial, that is, it will heat up and cool down more slowly.

Gas brick stoves can be used in any room

Gas heating radiators (they are also convectors) act on the same principle, and the main difference is in size. Such a radiator is small and is used mainly for irregular heating.

Convector operation pattern

Formally, speaking of heating devices, the gas heater also deserves mention. Although the flow-through water heater is not adapted to work in the heating circuit. With this improvement, it is necessary to “untie” the column from the water pressure (remove the diaphragm valve), install a circulation pump, and then experimentally check whether such a system can withstand the load of the heating system.

In the photo - the usual gas burner

Note! Ventilation in this case should already meet the requirements that are imposed not on the column, but on the gas boiler.

At the price of such a decision will be comparable to the cost of the boiler of the average price category. In addition, one can only guess what the gasman will say when they find such a "craftsman", one can safely say one thing - he will not get any praise from them.

Summarizing

At the moment, in many respects gas heating remains out of competition, gas heating with its own hands requires increased attention, but this does not reduce its popularity. It is also important that this method of heating is not limited to the installation of a conventional heating boiler, there are many ways of heating and everyone will be able to choose an option for themselves.
