How to choose a convector heater for the house
Practically every person in our climate zone faced such a situation - it became cold outside, but the heating was not given or already turned off, and as a result, the apartment has a low uncomfortable temperature. Or in the cold season, you must visit the country house without stationary heating. The simplest and most affordable method of heating in these situations is a convector heater. Consider how to choose a convector heater for the house.
Species
Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of products in this segment. But there are several main types of convectors:
- electric;
- gas ceramic;
- infrared convector, gas powered.
Principle of operation and device
The principle of operation of any convector heater is based on the physical law: cold air always displaces heated air upwards, where it is cooled down and down. There is a kind of air carousel, which is called air convection. Given this process, the design of the heater has been developed.
Electric convector heater
An electric convector is structurally designed as follows: a closed heating element is mounted in a metal housing. The air for heating enters the device from below, through the holes, envelops the heating element, which is located there, heats up and goes out through the lattice holes at the top of the front panel. In this way, the air in the room is heated.
Due to the design, the external surface heats up rather weakly, which distinguishes these heaters from oil radiators, on the surface of which you can get burned.
In modern electroconvectors, three types of heating elements are used: needle (tape), tubular (heating elements), monolithic.
Gas ceramic convector
This device works on the basis of the flameless combustion of a liquefied mixture of two gases propane and butane. Heat is transferred to the room through a heated ceramic panel.
Since the gas is still burned, it is necessary to ensure the installation of the tube, which feeds the mixture of gases from the cylinder to the device and the discharge of carbon monoxide.
Therefore, the convector is installed permanently and heats only one room.
Infrared gas convector
This is a conventional infrared heater, only the radiation is created due to the gas that is in the cylinder. Since the fuel cylinders are installed in the device, this gives it mobility and allows it to be used even outdoors.
Choose a heater
Having decided to use a convector for heating, any consumer should know the rules for choosing this device. First, let's determine its power: 1 kW per 10 m2 area with a ceiling height of 3 m. If the ceiling height is less or more, then the power is calculated using the proportion. Currently, electric convectors are available in capacities ranging from 0.25 to 3 kW.
If the device will be used only in one room of the house, then it is possible to take a mounted electric convector of standard sizes or baseboard, which is half lower, but much longer (length up to 2.5 m). Since the warm air goes up, the mounted convectors are placed as low as possible, but not above the middle of the wall. In the case when you plan to move the device from room to room, you can purchase a model on the legs or wheels. The reliable basis will not allow the device to fall.
To ensure sufficient heating of an apartment / house only by convectors, it is necessary to calculate the necessary amount of heat, and based on this, select the quantity and power of each device.
If the device is chosen to give, you can purchase both electric and gas convectors. Only it is necessary to take into account that the power of the latter is 2-6 kW. Therefore, it can heat up to 60 m.2. And do not forget about the features of installation.
If you plan to use the heating not only inside the cottage, but also in the courtyard, then it is better to turn your attention to the infrared convector heater that runs on gas. It will create a cozy atmosphere both indoors and outdoors.
If the appliance is purchased for an apartment, in this case the electric convector heater will be the most suitable, since most often there is centralized heating, which in special cases requires assistance. You can purchase both mounted and mobile modification of the device.
Additional selection criteria
Most modern convector heaters are equipped with a thermostat that allows you to set and maintain the required heating temperature and at the same time save energy. There are electronic and electromechanical regulators. Electronic give a more precise setting, resulting in more savings. Devices can also be equipped with:
- Timer for automatic shutdown.
- The function of storing the last set temperature of heating and its reproduction at the next inclusion.
- The air ionizer thereby cleansing it of dust and saturating the negatively charged particles.
- Remote control.
- Block off when tipping. This is especially important if there are small children in the family.
When the eyes diverge from diversity, you should explain your preferences as a competent sales assistant. He will tell you which device is right for you.
