How to put a tap on the battery heating

In the climatic conditions of our country it is impossible to do without a heating system. And for effective operation of radiators with a water coolant, they must be additionally equipped with cranes. This may be valves that regulate the flow of coolant into the battery, thermostat or a special Mayevsky valve designed to remove air from the system. This article will discuss how to put a tap on the heating battery, what are the nuances and difficulties.

What valves are used

If you have decided to install a faucet on a heating radiator, then it is necessary to first understand their varieties. So, for such purposes, you can use the following types of valves:

• ball flange;
• ball clutch;
• valve couplings;
• needle-shaped.

Each design has its own characteristics. For example, a flanged ball valve can only be in two positions. It is either fully open and allows the entire flow to pass, or it completely blocks the flow of coolant. Such structures are used mainly only for the complete overlap of pipelines.

Coupling ball valves do not have much flexibility in flow control. With their help, you can close or open the flow of coolant in the radiator. Because of this particular feature, coupling ball valves are most often used for installation on batteries, where they do not need to regulate the flow of coolant.

Coupling valve constructions are more flexible in flow control. With their help, it is possible to reduce or increase the flow of coolant into the heating radiator by the values ​​needed by the user. Because of this particular feature, coupling ball valves are most often used when mounted on batteries.

Needle cranes stand alone. Such constructions (sometimes called “Mayevsky” cranes) are used to remove air from the heating system. It uses a needle valve that opens with a key or a simple screwdriver.

Each type of crane is installed in a specific place. Coupling ball structures are mounted on the inlet pipes, as they are used to adjust the flow of coolant into the radiator. A “Mayevsky” crane or needle devices are placed from the end of the battery (in the upper part) on the side opposite to the inlet pipe. It is here that the air gets into the heating system.

Ball valve installation

Installation of a crane for the radiator should be carried out in the absence of coolant in the system, therefore, repair work should be carried out in the warm season. The very progress of the installation of a ball valve will look like this:

• First, choose a suitable place for installation. The tap must stand before connecting the pipe to the battery. If your system provides for a jumper that connects the inlet and outlet pipes, the valve is placed behind it. It is necessary to check the usability. After installation, the valve should be easy to close and open without encountering obstacles;
• Install the crane. If the installation is carried out simultaneously with the installation of radiators, the tap is simply screwed to the pipe. When working on an already functioning system, it is necessary to do a number of preliminary works. The first cut piece of pipe. Then, threading is done at its ends and winding is done. After that it is possible to carry out installation of the crane. In this case, fum-tape or other suitable insulation material should be used;
• The final step will be to check the tightness of the connection (preferably under pressure). For this, the system slowly fills with water and only then increases the pressure in it.

Installation of crane Mayevsky

Needle devices or Mayevsky cranes are available in two types:

• mechanical;
• automatic.

In the first case, the air is drained from the system manually. Such structures are installed in apartment buildings. They are not so sensitive to the quality of the coolant.

Mayevsky's crane is installed at the highest point of the heating system, that is, at the top of the radiator end on the side opposite to the entrance. In this place air accumulates in the greatest quantity.

Installing a needle valve on a cast iron battery is not too difficult. Before starting work, make sure that the radiator end cap has an opening for installing the device. If there is none, then purchase another stub. You can drill a hole yourself and cut the internal thread, but such procedures are not for everyone. Therefore, it is better to purchase a ready-made plug with a hole.

Before installation, it is necessary to block the flow of coolant into the system. It is better if you already have faucets on the inlet and outlet pipes leading to the radiator. In this case, it is enough to shut them off and drain the water from the battery.

Then, unscrew the cap and place the Mayevsky crane on it, then return it to its place. At the same time it is necessary to achieve the correct orientation of the tap hole - it should look away from the wall and slightly down. In this case, the descent of air will not cause you trouble in the form of dirty streams on the new wallpaper. Avoiding such troubles can be taken care of by acquiring a tap in which you can adjust the direction of the flow of air leaving the liquid.
