Installation of the gas column in the apartment itself

Heated water using a gas column at the moment is the most appropriate method of hot water. But there is a certain order of installation of such equipment in the apartment. It is not in vain that stringent requirements are imposed on the installation of water and gas in the system and the connection of the gas water heater, because these devices are classified as high-risk equipment (even columns and household appliances).

It should be noted that modern geysers have several degrees of protection: from gas supply stopping or gas leakage, from pressure drops of water or from gas supply stopping at the moment of the column operation, etc. In all emergency situations, the protection is triggered and the column is disconnected from the gas supply and goes out. But, nevertheless, if the connection is incorrect, especially if you installed a gas water heater in the apartment with your own hands, an explosion may occur, which in the apartment building will cause damage not only to the owners of the device.

Where to begin

In the apartment there are three main reasons for the need to install the column:

• Transfer it from one room to another at the request of the gas supplying organization. Most often you want to move the column from the bathroom, in which it is installed according to outdated requirements, in the kitchen (according to new standards).
• Replacing a failed equipment with a new one installed in the same place.
• Installing a gas column for the first time as an alternative to a centralized hot water supply.

In all cases, the house must be gasified.

Naturally, in any matter relating to the gas wiring and appliances, it is necessary to coordinate all actions with the local Gorgaz. In the first and last case, a change in the gas supply project or the drafting of a new one will be required. In the second case, it is sufficient to simply coordinate their actions with the gas-servants and put the new equipment on record. Such actions are due to the fact that when the equipment is being replaced, nothing technically changes: the supply of gas and water remains the same. They just make an audit.

When a column is moved to another place or installed for the first time, new pipes are required to be laid, and this should be done in accordance with the project in which experienced specialists have taken into account all the norms and requirements. Before issuing a design solution, they make a survey of the room and select the installation site of the column.

Installation site requirements

Despite the fact that the project will determine everything, those who want to install a column in their apartment will know the following:

• Installation of the gas column is permissible only in the kitchen or other non-residential premises. It is forbidden to have this equipment in the bathroom in accordance with the latest requirements.
• Connect the hole for removal of exhaust gases and the chimney should be stainless or galvanized pipe with a wall thickness of at least one millimeter and a diameter of 110-120 mm. The use of aluminum corrugated pipe is undesirable.
• The straight section of the pipe from the column to the chimney should be twenty-25–50 cm, depending on the height of the room;
• Installation of the column is carried out at an unattainable height for children, but given the fact that it will have to be adjusted.
• The room in which the gas column is installed must have at least eight squares of area and a height of 2–2.5 m (at least).
• The distance to the nearest gas appliance should not be less than 10 cm, and from the nearest wall - not less than 15 cm; there should be at least 60 cm of free space in front of the front of the column.
• Connect the pipe for exhaust gases from the column should be only in the chimney. Ventilation channels for this purpose can not be used. Such a connection can provoke gas pollution in the premises of your neighbors.
• Before connecting to the chimney, check its draft and obtain a document on its compliance with the norms.

Self connection

Self-taught masters, as a rule, have the skills and all the necessary tools for the job. It is for such people that installing a gas water heater in an apartment is not difficult, especially if there are some recommendations.

So, to install the column, you will need: monkey and gas wrenches, column fasteners, a drill, FUM tape or hemp (flax), a soldering iron (if the water pipes are plastic), water and gas filters, a gas ball valve with a yellow handle, a faucet Mayevsky.

We will immediately clarify that all gas pipe installation work is carried out by gas workers or companies that have the appropriate permits and certificates. Therefore, on their own, you can only hang the column on the wall and connect the water. You can also connect the gas hose to the already mounted pipe or screw the collapsible (removable) connection to the column.

How to install a column:

• In the room and place indicated by the project, on the wall with non-flammable coating, we make holes in the wall for mounting the column. If the wall has a combustible coating, then between it and the column it is necessary to make a fireproof gasket of galvanized sheet, etc.
• When the column is hanging, it is connected to the water supply, for which they produce a tie-in to the existing water pipelines of cold and hot water. Water is connected to the column with the help of pipes, connecting them to the corresponding outlets with collapsible connections or flexible hoses connecting the outlet from the column to the pipes. Naturally, all diameters must match.
• In front of the column, a filter is installed to clean water from pollution, a Mayevsky tap for air discharge. On a cold water pipe set ball valve to shut off the water supply in case of repair. This will extend the life of the device.
• After connecting the water, check for leaks. To do this, open the valve on cold water, faucet hot water and open the valve Mayevsky for air release. If no leaks are detected during the water supply, then everything is in order. Detected defects are eliminated by pressing the nuts. The main thing is not to overdo it.
• Connect the column with the chimney, dressing and fastening the pipe to the outlet of the column and inserting it into the chimney. The connection of the pipe to the chimney is insulated so that there is no gas pollution in the room
• Independent gas connection described above. To check the absence of gas leakage, it is necessary to prepare a soap solution and coat all gas joints with it. Then open the valve. If you do not see bubbles at the joints, then everything is done correctly.

As you can see, for a person who is accustomed to perform work independently, there is nothing difficult in installing a gas column in an apartment. The article describes a variant with an existing chimney. If the installation of the column was not foreseen by the project of the house, then you will have to install a separate chimney.
