Heating

Properly designed and designed heating system of a country cottage is the key not only to comfort and coziness in the house, but also the efficiency of its operation. One of the most important parts of the climate network are radiators for a private house. After all, it depends on them how much of the energy of the coolant will heat the air, and how much it will be unproductive to “fly into the pipe”.

The choice of heating radiators for a private house has its own characteristics

Features of the choice of radiators for individual heating

One of the advantages of their own cottage are autonomous engineering networks, designed to meet those or other needs and provide comfortable living conditions.

This also applies to heating. In suburban housing construction, as a rule, an own heating system is organized, the central element of which is a gas, electric or solid fuel boiler. When choosing a heating radiator for a house, it is necessary to take this into account.

Autonomous heating system with boiler expands the choice of radiators

The heating network with a heat-transfer fluid circulating in a closed cycle has the following features:

  • operates at low water pressure, so that all the equipment used is experiencing light loads;
  • there are no strong hydraulic and pneumatic shocks, which are typical for centralized engineering networks (this greatly expands the choice, since you can buy radiators for home heating that have less strength);
  • it is possible to ensure the necessary chemical and physical purity of the coolant (the absence of acids, alkalis, abrasive particles and other impurities).

Note! Virtually all of the existing models on the construction market are suitable for installation in independent heating systems. Therefore, heating radiators for a country house can be selected only in terms of energy efficiency, power, cost and external water.

However, when choosing, it is necessary to pay attention to some features that we will discuss in the next section.

The nuances of using different types of batteries

Option 1. Steel

This is the most economical option for arranging the heating system.

Radiators for heating a country house of steel are divided into two broad categories:

  1. Panel. They have excellent heat transfer coefficient, small size and attractive appearance. Can be used in systems with a different eyeliner pipelines: side, bottom and so on.
Steel panel radiator

Steel radiators are suitable for installation under windowsills of large area windows, as they create a dense thermal curtain that prevents access of cold air to the room and the formation of drafts.

  1. Tubular. Their price is slightly higher than the previous version. In addition, they are sold in a ready-made form, and not in sections, because to assemble the battery of the required power will not work. You must immediately purchase a product of a certain size.

Tubular radiators are powerful, have an attractive appearance and can be used for drying various things. A vivid example of such a device is a heated towel rail, which is available in every bathroom.

The main advantages of steel heating elements are as follows:

  • low cost with a very high efficiency;
  • low oxidability from the coolant contaminated with chemical impurities and debris;
  • long service time;
  • lightness and compactness - they can be easily installed with your own hands; brackets that come with the device are used for fasteners.

However, the devices in question have some drawbacks:

  • the design of these batteries is not bad, but it does not always fit the specific interior of the room, which does not allow them to be used as an element of the decoration of the room;
  • require maintenance - steel batteries should be washed at least twice a year, otherwise the channels may be blocked by mineral deposits;
  • radiators made of steel must always be filled with coolant (even if the heating system is not in operation), otherwise the inner surface of the panels will be filled with rust and become impassable to the liquid.

Option 2. Aluminum

Radiator heating of a country house with the use of aluminum batteries is also widespread. This is due to the innovative design of such products and high power. Their cost is not much higher than steel models and depends on the manufacturer.

Tip! The price of aluminum panels of Russian manufacturers is lower than their foreign counterparts, and they practically do not differ from each other in quality. Therefore, if the issue of saving is important for you, pay attention to the domestic models.

When installing and operating such radiators, the following instructions should be followed:

  1. Aluminum is very sensitive to the composition of the fluid used as the coolant. Especially to the level of acidity. If this requirement is not observed, the battery may fail for 2-3 years due to rapid corrosion.
  2. When designing a system, it is necessary to very carefully calculate the power of devices. If you install a too large battery, the air will warm up and rise to the ceiling too quickly, as a result of which local cold zones form near the floor, which does not contribute to the comfort of the people there.

You can safely install aluminum radiators in a private house. If you follow the rules of installation and operation, they will serve you as a source of comfortable heat for many years.

Option 3. Bimetallic

The most modern, economical, environmentally friendly and aesthetic way of heating rooms using a heat-transfer fluid are bimetallic radiators. They embodied all the advantages of powerful aluminum devices and robust steel structures.

The scheme of their device is simple. Inside the aluminum heat exchanger, which effectively warms the air in the room, steel pipes are laid, which circulate the coolant and protect the ferrous metal from the destructive effects of aggressive chemicals dissolved in water.

The device is a bimetallic radiator heating

The advantages of such a solution are obvious:

  • long life of radiators - according to manufacturers, they can last for 40 years or more;
  • the ability to withstand high pressure - steel pipes can transport the coolant under a pressure of 30-35 atmospheres without using any additional equipment;
  • attractive appearance - the aluminum heat exchanger has a smooth surface and is covered with a high-strength decorative layer, which perfectly tolerates physical impact and is easy to clean with ordinary household detergents.

However, for all the above benefits have to pay. The cost of bimetallic radiators is very high, not everyone can afford to buy such equipment.

Note! There are cheaper versions of "bimetallic radiators", which, in fact, are not. In them, steel tubes reinforced only part of the channels through which the coolant flows. Therefore, they do not have one of the main advantages of these devices - corrosion protection, which makes their use absolutely impractical.

Externally, the bimetallic battery can not be distinguished from aluminum

Most of the negative factors that bimetallic batteries protect against can be avoided with proper design, construction and operation of the heating system. Therefore, it is not worth spending money on the purchase of such devices, consider the other options in this article.

Option 4. Cast iron

The history of batteries made of cast iron has more than 100 years. Such radiators are widely used to design both centralized heating networks and autonomous systems assembled by themselves.

Pig-iron radiator - classics of the climatic equipment

Let us dwell in more detail on the features of cast iron radiators:

  1. This material slowly heats up and cools.. Therefore, in case of short-term accidents of the heating system, the batteries will continue to heat the room. However, this same feature does not allow finely adjusting the parameters of the equipment with the use of automatic thermostats.
  2. Cast Iron Corrosion Resistant. This parameter, which is so important for a city apartment, in a private house loses its relevance, because here it is possible to control the quality of the heat carrier and get rid of harmful impurities in it.
  3. You can purchase designer versions of cast iron batteries, which will serve not just heating equipment, but also a fashion accessory that complements or emphasizes certain interior solutions.
This work of art is also a radiator.

One of the important factors to consider is cost. The price of cast iron batteries is higher than steel and aluminum, but much lower than bimetallic ones. Therefore, as in the previous case, it is recommended to prefer other, more economical and efficient options to cast iron batteries.

Conclusion

After reviewing the material posted above, you yourself made sure that steel, aluminum, and cast iron batteries are suitable for installation in a country house. However, in order not to be disappointed in your choice later, many other nuances should be taken into account when designing climate networks (see also the article Choosing oil-fired heating radiators for houses and apartments).
