Divertor for the mixer: what it is and how to choose the
All bath mixers have an element such as a divertor. For ordinary people unfamiliar with the device of sanitary devices, this term says nothing. We decided to fill this gap and tell what this part of the device serves.
What is this element for?
In essence, this device is a switching element that cuts off water one path of flow and causes it to flow in a different direction of movement (through another pipe).
The instruction notes that three types of these devices are most often installed.
- The first of them has long been widely used in bath mixers, which have a transition to the shower. This is a well-known switch for all of us, docked with the housing of the sanitary device. With his help, we can direct the water to the drain part of the mixer, or its shower unit. Two fundamentally different structures of this device are known: a button (then the divertor must be pressed or pulled up) and a lever (in this case, the device rotates either along the vertical / horizontal axis or from left to right). As a rule, such devices have a cross section of thread 1 2 inches.
- The second type is used in the kitchen. In this case, the diverter is placed if it is equipped with a dishwasher. Practically all this equipment is completed with a valve. However, it is desirable to cut off the water for the period of time when the machine is directly operated.
This is what the divertor is for. Can this kind of device have a diameter? either? in.
Most often this device is installed on the cold water supply hose to the mixer, much less hot.
Note! Before you repair the diverter for the mixer, note that there are two types of such a switch - two-and three-position. In the first embodiment, the liquid is supplied either to the mixer or to the dishwasher. In the second case, a third is added to these options, and then water can be fed in two directions at once.
- Another niche of diverter applications is their interaction with flow-through water filters.. Purifiers can mate directly with the water supply pipeline or be mounted separately on the mixer.
In this embodiment, the device makes it possible to turn off the flow of untreated water and turn on the flow of purified liquid from the pipes. For example, a diverter for a watering hose to the mixer.
Types of spout / shower switches for bathroom faucets
Modern bathtub faucets with shower, are equipped with four different types of diverter:
- push-button device;
- flag analogue;
- inverse push button device;
- innovative ceramic device.
Let us tell in more detail about these types.
Exhaust devices
- Exhaust pushbutton switches are traditional for lever (pedal) mixers.
- In this case, to switch the water supply from the appliance to the shower, pull the switch handle upwards.
- In this position, under the influence of a stream of flowing water, the divertor is fixed automatically.
Note! Some models of exhaust devices are complemented by the option of manually fixing their position. It is required for systems with low pressure / water pressure when the switch cannot lock automatically.
- So that the element fixes the direction “to the shower”, after pulling the handle upward, it should be turned to either side by 90 °.
- To return the switch to the initial position, it is necessary to rotate the handle back 90 °. (See also the article How to choose a sink: features.)
Flag analogs
- The rotary switch is traditionally used in two-valve mixers with a shower.
- The fixture includes two elements. This is an eccentric, which is put on the handle, it rotates the user. As well as the central rod, it moves inside the mixer body, thereby opening the flow of water in the right direction.
- The main advantage of this type of switches is a high level of reliability, because the knot is made entirely of brass. In addition, the device is convenient to use when the mixer is turned on.
Devices
Pressure devices switch water flows by simply pressing a button.
In appearance, such a device has no differences from the traditional analogue: in its neutral position, water flows through the spout. To transfer the stream to the shower, press the button switch.
The main disadvantages of the device are as follows.
- As a rule, water is redirected when the mixer is already turned on, and in water pressure devices, the water pressure creates resistance to switching.
- In addition, the user's hands are wet and uncomfortable to push the button.
The main advantage of the variety: it’s still easier to push than pull up.
The device is equipped with ceramic plates
This is the newest solution to the design of the divertor proposed by the company Lemark. Its price is quite high, but it is exceptionally reliable with a very long service life.
The main advantages of the device below.
- Resistance to water hammer when switching water.
- Modern design that can withstand more than 150 thousand cycles.
- Smooth switching, it provides an angle of rotation of 180 °.
Conclusion
Mixer diverters may have different designs. All of them have certain advantages and disadvantages. Choose a mixer based on which shower switch you prefer.
