Why the cesspool is filling fast

Outdoor sewage

In order for the sewage system in the house to function normally, timely care is needed for the pit where the drains flow. However, even in the case of proper operation, the pit may fill up too soon. We will single out several reasons why the cesspool is quickly filled and what should be done to avoid it.

Impaired functioning

Cesspit maintenance

In order for the sewage system to function properly, it needs to be properly maintained. In this case, the most important is the timely pumping of wastewater. It is usually held once a year, but with a smaller volume, it can occur more often if the septic tank is filled with waste. However, when several years pass, the period between pumping may decrease, and the pit will begin to fill quickly. As a result, additional measures may be needed to improve the performance of the sump.

Such reasons causing deterioration of the pit can be:

  • silted bottom;
  • Fat deposits on the walls of sewage pipes, making the ground so that it does not absorb water;
  • high speed filling pit.

As a result, a lot of effluent is collected in the pit, and a terrible odor accumulates, spreading around even with the hatch closed (except for absolutely sealed containers), the pit fills too quickly and it has to be pumped out more often.

Silted bottom

Pumping pits
One of the most frequent reasons for quickly filling the pit is the silting of its bottom. You can get rid of this as follows. First of all, it is necessary to pump out all the drains that are in the pit - for this they call a sewage truck. All that is not pumped machine, that is, small residues of waste in the pit, you need to fill with clean water, so that they soften as much as possible and become liquid. After some time, special biopreparations are added to the pit, which contain a large number of bacteria that can cope with the sludge.

Bacteria are also needed to clean the walls of fat deposits accumulated on their surface. These preparations on a biological basis are quite effective, since their constituents are microorganisms that feed on sediments from the cesspool. What is achieved after using these microorganisms?

  1. In the cesspool, the amount of sewage decreases.
  2. Solid waste is diluted.
  3. From the pit ceases to smell unpleasant.
  4. Internal elements, such as sewage pipes, are cleaned of fat deposits.
  5. Drainage of the pit again functions as before.
  6. For a long time, the cesspool will not be silted, and fat deposits will not form in it.
  7. All waste components become passive and not dangerous to humans.

Preparations on a biological basis differ in their uses. Some of them are used to clean sewer systems, sewers, they are able to destroy fats and odors formed. And others make it possible to speed up the process of decomposition of waste that fell into the sewage system - fruit rind, toilet paper and all that.

These products are often used for outdoor dry closets. Waste in them, as well as impurities, is simply converted into compost, which can be used even for fertilizing vegetable gardens. Therefore, if the pit has already been silted up, microorganisms will help to deal with this problem best.

Overflow well
How can you prevent the silting of the bottom of the sump? Ideally, it will not be completely possible to make it so that the thing that seals it does not fall into the pit, but something can be done. So, on the sink in the kitchen, you can put the mesh, which will not allow solid waste to get into the sewer. In the toilet enough to put a bucket for toilet paper, instead of throwing it into the toilet. Then fewer products that silt it will fall into the pit.

It is possible to get rid of fast filling of the sewerage if to arrange the second collector. It is made at a short distance from the first collector. Both tanks are connected by a pipe installed under a slight slope, over which water is poured. Such a design can provide a cleaning system of two levels, with the result that the sewage system will work much more efficiently.

Tip! The pit designed to collect wastewater should be located at a distance of about 30 m from the main well, not less, since sanitary standards require it.

Freezing of drains

Sewage insulation

If sewage began to accumulate in the cesspool in the winter, it is likely that the waste began to freeze. Most often ice is formed due to improperly performed work on the insulation of sewage systems, as well as poor-quality installation work. However, even if all the work, including on thermal insulation, was carried out correctly, the pit could still freeze.

Quite an effective way to defrost the contents of the pit, it is resistive heating of the conductors. It is necessary to take a copper wire rated for 2 kW, a metal pin having a length of about 20 cm, as well as a small hook. We must not forget that this method is best applied to those who have at least a small understanding of electrical engineering, since it is required to observe safety precautions.

If the entire pit freezes, the following method should be applied. In the center of the frozen drains should drive a metal pin connected to the wire, the end of which is stripped. The other end of this wire, using a hook, throws on the element connected to the current, or use a wire fed from the outlet phase. You can’t do with a few hours, like a pipe, you’ll have to wait about a day or even two to completely defrost the pit. When the pit is thrown, the wire is de-energized and only after that it is pulled out of the pit.

Tip! If during this process you have to be near the pit, then the prerequisite for safe work will be the presence of rubberized shoes and protective gloves.

In the case when only a metal pipe has frozen, it is necessary to warm up the sewage system in a different way. It is necessary to strip the wire so that they can wrap the frozen pipe once. The other end of the wire connects to the phase in the outlet. After just a few hours, the pipe will be thawed out by the action of the current passing through the metal pipe.

Another option for defrosting pipes is to deliver hot water inside the pipe using a special device shown in the illustration.

Defrost sewer pipe with hot water

Special devices are used to defrost plastic pipes, by means of which a large current, about 400 A, flows through the ice in the pipe, as a result of which the ice quickly melts. As the rules are equipped with such equipment specialists. Home craftsman, you can try to use the welding machine. Contact must be in ice (in water) on opposite sides of a frozen pipe.

In the article, we examined the main reasons for the rapid filling of the cesspool, as well as winter problems, which may give the impression that the pit is full.
