Caulking the cast iron pipe itself

Pipes

In many houses built over the past decades, sewage communications were made mostly of cast iron, because no one then knew pipes made of plastic or polypropylene. Pipes made of cast iron are durable, do not wear out for a long time, however, they may require special operating conditions and timely repair. This applies mainly to internal risers, the service life of which, for certain reasons, may be less than that of the same funnel pipe.

A sewage pipe in sewer systems is needed in order to connect the sewer risers with the atmosphere. This is done in order to prevent the penetration into the room of unpleasant odors that constantly appear from such plumbing fixtures as a sink or toilet. In particular, the fan pipe is installed when the house has more than one residential level.

The process of caulking

Before installing a new piece of pipe, you first need to remove the old one. Then you need to produce a process known as caulking cast iron pipes. Not everyone can do this work with their own hands, because caulking requires certain skills.

Iron casting - some nuances

Caulking nuances

Many articles have been written on how to stamp the cast-iron pipe, so I want to summarize everything written in them. First you need to decide on the volume of work performed, as well as what tools are needed to carry them out, how much and what materials you need to purchase for a full and high-quality repair.

Bulgarian for caulking

What is required of the tools? First of all, we need a Bulgarian complete with a 230 mm disc. Requires a hammer with a rubber nozzle or a nozzle of wood, chisel and pliers.

If there is no grinder, you can take a regular hacksaw for metal, but then it will take more time to complete the work.

Tip! Reliability of fixing new pipes depends on the quality of the caulking.

First you need to get rid of the old toilet, so that there is more room to work. It is important to know that if it was planted on a cement-sand mortar, it will have to be broken and bought a new one.

Capping tips

Having begun to dismantle a section of the old pipe, the person who is engaged in repairing the sewage system may not know exactly how exactly the connection was fixed and how it was chased. If a cabol was used, then there is a chance that the pipe will be removed by loosening, without cutting anything out and thereby saving time. To do this, you need to gently tap the pipe with a hammer and try to loosen it. If it turns out, then continue to shake further. After the pipe is removed, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the socket.

If the pipe was connected by means of sealing pouring, then it will be necessary to use the grinder, since the cast iron practically “merged” with the casting during operation.

Tip! Sawing the pipe is best over the socket, and not in any other place, while not forgetting to use glasses and a respirator or face mask. The most practical is to use a disk of about 230 mm.

What is already cut off, you can remove - this piece is no longer needed.

The most difficult thing to come. With the same disk, we carefully make up to four cuts on the remaining end of the pipe, but not to touch the socket. Using a hammer (ordinary) and a chisel, you need to pry the metal particles and the remnants of the old fill and remove them with pliers. It is desirable that none of these residues fall into the sewer pipe.

Banded pipe

After removing all the elements of the old compound, that is, metal and pouring particles, the surface is completely cleaned from the inside, if necessary - it should be dried using a building dryer or wiping it with a dry rag.
