Diameters of pvc pipes - existing types and applications

Pipes

The scope of application of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes is quite extensive. Moreover, depending on the destination, their diameters can be very different. Next, we consider the most common sizes, and for what purposes they are used.

PVC water pipe 25 mm

General information

The products in question are quite popular materials for laying industrial and household communications.

This is due to its advantages such as:

  • Durability;
  • Reliability;
  • Corrosion resistance;
  • The ability to lay the pipeline under the ground at great depths, due to the high strength;
  • Low weight of the product, which reduces transportation costs and simplifies the installation process;
  • Easy installation, since this process does not require any special equipment. As a result, the assembly of the domestic pipeline can be done by hand;
  • Resistance to high temperatures - the material begins to melt at a temperature of 180-220 degrees Celsius, in polyethylene and polypropylene analogs, this figure is much lower;
  • The low price of the material - products are 30 percent cheaper than polyethylene analogues.
  • Thermal conductivity is close to that of heat insulating materials;
  • Environmentally friendly, thanks to which the products are used for the installation of drinking pipelines;
  • Excellent throughput due to good hydraulic properties;
  • Ability to withstand pressure up to 16 bar.

Note! Unlike polyethylene analogs, the material in question is susceptible to shock loads. Moreover, with decreasing ambient temperature, its fragility increases.

PVC pipe 32 mm with bell

It should be noted that currently there are 2 types of PVC pipe products:

  1. From ordinary polyvinyl chloride (PVC);
  2. From unplasticized PVC PVC (PVC-U).

Most often, in their production, PVC-U material is used, since it has the best technical characteristics. Thanks to this, the products can be used for pressure pipelines.

Diameters and applications

Diameter classification

Depending on the size, the classification of the products in question is as follows:

Internal systems When laying internal systems, PVC pipe of 20 mm and PVC pipe of 50 mm are most often used. Also sometimes use products with a diameter of 25, 32 or 40 mm. For example, they can be used as hoses for the electrical network.
Domestic sewer network A PVC pipe of 110 mm or 150 mm is usually used as a riser. For wiring most often use products with a diameter of 40-50 mm.
For outdoor networks For these purposes, use parts of larger diameter, so consider this category separately.

For outdoor systems

So, as mentioned above, large-diameter PVC pipes are used for the installation of outdoor sewers.

The most common among them are the following:

  • With a diameter of 160 mm - with the help of these products, as a rule, non-pressure sewer systems for agricultural, industrial and household objects are performed. Length may be different:
  • 1m;
  • 2m;
  • 3m.

The permissible depth of the bookmark depends on the wall thickness (stiffness class). For example, the SN4 pipe is allowed to be laid under the ground to a depth of 8 m, and SN 2 only at 4 m.

External sewer pipe 200 mm
  • PVC pipe of 200 mm is focused on the installation of sewer free-flow systems serving industrial buildings, as well as large residential buildings. In other words, it is applied where a large amount of waste is assumed. In addition, this diameter is suitable for laying stormwater drainage systems that prevent flooding of city squares and streets.
  • In cases where increased requirements are imposed on the sewage system, the use of PVC pipes with a section of 315 mm is justified.. Their walls are three-layered - the inner and outer layers are made of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. At the same time products have a small weight.

Tip! All dimensions of the products listed above are contained in a table of diameters of PVC pipes, which can be found in reference books.

Classification by purpose

All existing types of these products are classified by purpose:

  • Water pressure;
  • Sewer free-flow;
  • Casing, for installation of wells.

Next, consider in more detail the features of each type.

Standpipe

Pressure head

Pressure pipe products are distinguished primarily by the method of installation.

They can be:

  • Flange;
  • For cold welding.

PVC pipe 16 mm has the smallest possible cross section, the maximum is 400 mm. The minimum diameter of a product with a socket is 90 mm.

Note! When buying products with a socket, it should be borne in mind that the standard length, stated by the manufacturer, does not take into account the length of the socket.

Flared pressure pipes resemble sewers, however, their connection unit provides greater tightness due to the tight rubber ring, which is installed in a special socket groove.

Products for cold welding are connected with a special adhesive, which is a solvent. The structure welds the joined details, than provides a reliable and tight joint.

Non-pressure sewer pipes

Sewer free-flow

For sewer systems functioning by gravity, PVC pipes are often used. Their allowable pressure does not exceed 0.16 MPa, and the maximum allowable temperature is 450 degrees Celsius.

Products for the external sewerage are painted in red color.

The pipeline is assembled in a bell-shaped manner, thanks to which the installation instructions for the system are extremely simple:

  • The part is inserted into the socket, which is sealed with a rubber ring.
  • Then the joint is sealed with silicone sealant.

Note! For reliable connection, it is necessary to ensure the alignment of parts. In case of a skew, the sealing rubber ring will come together and the joint will be depressurized.

These products vary in hardness class:

SN 2 Light type - products capable of withstanding a load of 2 kN / m2.
SN 4 Average type - maximum load is 4 kN / m2.
SN 8 Heavy type - maximum load is 8 kN / m2

Casing threaded

This type of products used in the device water wells, as well as technical pipelines that transport chemicals. A feature of these products is good resistance to the effects of various aggressive chemicals.

Their length is 3-4 meters, and the diameter can be in the range of 80-225 mm. Pipes of this type are mounted in a threaded-socket mode. Thanks to this connection it turns out even more reliable and tight.

Moreover, due to the thread, the resistance of the joints to vertical and horizontal loads, which may arise as a result of internal or external tensile pressure, increases. For example, a PVC pipe with a diameter of 125 mm is able to withstand a load of 5 tons and even more. Thus, for a well with a depth of 200 meters, the margin of safety has been increased sevenfold.

Conclusion

As we found out, today there is a large assortment of PVC pipes with different diameters. This parameter depends primarily on the scope of the product, as well as on some other parameters of the pipeline.
