Pvc pipes for sewage: the main characteristics and features

Pipes

If until recently, household wastewater disposal systems were made of metal components, today PVC pipes are used more and more for domestic sewage. The urgency and demand for such pipes is not accidental, since the polymer sewage system has a number of obvious advantages over metal counterparts.

In this article, we will discuss the reasons for the replacement of metal pipes with polymer analogues. In addition, we consider the types of these materials on the market.

Main characteristics

Technical characteristics of PVC pipes for sewage make such products the best choice for the device systems with internal and external location.

Non-pressure pipes made of polyvinyl chloride are characterized by such qualities as:

  • absolute corrosion resistance;
  • resistance to mechanical stress and, as a result, the possibility of laying in the ground or in concrete;
  • long-term operational resource due to high strength and reliability;
  • smooth inner surface, eliminating the possibility of the formation of mud deposits, leading to blockages;
  • resistance to negative effects of chemically aggressive substances;
  • wide range of sizes and, as a result, the ability to purchase components for the device systems with different configurations;
  • ease of machining of PVC products with their own hands and, as a result, short deadlines and low cost of building sewer systems;
  • reasonable price in comparison with metal pipes.

After we have decided on the main characteristics, we will consider what sizes of PVC pipes for sewage are presented on the market.

Non-pressure polyvinyl chloride pipes are manufactured with a diameter range from 110 to 630 mm. The list of lengths of segments of finished products begins with half a meter and ends with 6 meters.

Important: By request, manufacturers of PVC products make segments up to 12 meters long, which is important when laying the main systems for the discharge of sewage.

Manufacturing technology

Extrusion line in the production process

At the initial stage of production of non-pressure pipes from polyvinyl chloride, a mixture of granulated PVC polymer and a number of industrial additives are being prepared, among which we note:

  • pigments - used to give the finished product the desired color (sewer pipes, most often, are made in orange or gray);
  • antistatic additives - reduce the likelihood of accumulating a charge of static electricity;
  • plasticizers - provide polymer composition required plasticity parameters
  • stabilizers - give the finished product strength and rigidity;
  • inhibitors - used to slow down the process of hardening of the polymer composition;
  • catalysts - accelerate the course of the polymerization process.

Depending on the purpose of the sewage system, in addition to the listed additives, additional ingredients may be added to the polymer composition.

Production of non-pressure PVC pipes is carried out on special extrusive lines. The production process is a continuous cycle, which includes the stage of extrusion, calibration, exhaust cooling and cutting the finished product to a predetermined length.

A standard extrusion line consists of equipment such as:

  • extruder (die and polymer feed system);
  • bath for cooling and calibration of pipes;
  • device for drawing blanks;
  • guillotine shears or disc cutter for cutting pipe;
  • automatic winder or stacker for storage of finished products.

Important: Modern lines for the production of non-pressure sewer pipes are automated to the maximum, which eliminates the likelihood of production defects.

Finished tube configuration

GOST for free-flow PVC pipe assumes a bell-shaped product configuration with a variable diameter. The socket is located at one end of the product and is an extension with an internal sealing ring, which contributes to a greater tightness of the connection.

Non-pressure PVC pipes are made monolithic (single-layer) or three-layer. The difference between the two varieties, in the first place, lies in the rigidity of the product and, as a result, in the maximum depth of the bookmark.

Application features

Main scope of application

Polyvinyl chloride products manufactured according to GOST 51613 2000, has found wide application in the construction and repair of pressure-free (maximum working pressure up to 0.16 MPa) water and sewer systems with underground location.

Also, such products are used for the construction of sewage networks with external location, intended for servicing individual construction objects of housing purpose.

Important: The temperature of the medium transported through such pipes should not exceed +45 ° С.

Shut-off valves for polyvinyl chloride sewer systems

As already mentioned, pipes made of polyvinyl chloride, differ ideally smooth surface of the inner walls. This characteristic is an important distinctive quality, since PVC sewage systems will not require maintenance in the form of chemical or mechanical cleaning for a long time.

For comparison, the inner walls of cast-iron analogs, even in the new state, are mottled with micro-relief, in which deposited contaminants linger. As a result, after several years of normal operation of the system, it becomes necessary to clean it.

Of course, smooth walls - this is not the only reason that determines the scope of PVC pipes. For example, these products have a high degree of resistance to lateral deformations. As a result, PVC pipes can be buried in the soil or laid in a cement screed without the need for pre-reinforcement.

Such an opportunity allows building complete wastewater disposal systems an order of magnitude faster, which, in turn, leads to a significant reduction in the cost of the final result.
