Where and how stainless pipe is used: technological cycle
Matte or polished stainless pipe is most often found among all construction materials made of stainless steel due to a very wide range of applications in various construction sectors. Perhaps most of all it is in demand in plumbing - heating devices, circuits and fittings are made from it.
It is also needed in the automotive industry and aviation, and in addition, it is used as an auxiliary decorative material, for example, for arranging stair railings - balusters and handrails. Below we learn more about the technology of alloy production and the use of products from it.
Production technology and scope
Types and features
According to the methods of manufacturing such structural materials can be divided into two types:
- electrowelded;
- seamless pipes.
But the second version of the instruction divides into several types of rental, namely:
- hot rolled;
- heatdeformed;
- cold-formed pipes.
Welded production
- Such an electric-welded pipe, as in the above image, is made of stainless steel sheet (GOST 5632-72), more precisely, of strips — specially cut strips, which are bent (folded), and then using a electric welding, a straight seam is made.
Note! Despite the fact that the weld after processing is almost invisible, this method somewhat weakens the mechanical strength of the product.
- They are mainly used as auxiliary decorative elements, that is, not for water supply / heating.
- However, in some cases, such a material can be used to transport gases and liquids at low pressure, and this is often done to save money, since its price is the lowest among all stainless steel.
Seamless production
- Stainless steel pipes according to GOST 9941 81 have a higher quality - hot-deformed, heat-deformed and cold-deformed.
- In the composition of such steel, according to GOST 5632-72 there are additives C (carbon), Si (silicon), Mn (manganese), Cr (chromium), Ni (nickel), T (titanium), Al (aluminum).
- Hot-rolled seamless rolling can be determined by visual inspection.. It has sufficiently thick walls that can reach 36 mm - this allows the use of such products for transporting gases and liquids under very high pressure.
Note! Allowable pressure depends on the ratio of the diameter and wall thickness.
- Considering that the nominal temperature of such pipelines can reach 425? C, they are used not only for water supply and heating, but also when drilling wells as drilling, compression and casing pipes. These parts provide the drilling process itself or protect the walls of the well from collapse.
- Cold-deformed or heat-deformed stainless polished pipe belongs to general-purpose materials and its walls do not exceed 10 mm in thickness. Such characteristics suggest that this structural material can be used to transport gases and liquids at ordinary pressure, and, moreover, as auxiliary and decorative elements of various metal structures.

The most diverse branches of the national economy, as well as various domestic and industrial tasks, require the use of stainless hot-deformed, cold-formed and electric-welded pipes. In connection with such demand, the size, shape and range of stainless steel pipe has a great variety, allowing you to fill any niche.
This diversity is based on a large number of groups and titles that divide products according to the main features, which include:
- The quality of the metal used;
- Type of profile section;
- Method of manufacture (production);
- Purpose of products;
- Type of surface (mirror, polished, matte and the like).
The usual dimensions of a stainless pipe are 6000 mm long, less often 3000 mm, and very rarely 2000 mm.

Weight characteristics
You can find out the theoretical weight of 1 meter of stainless pipe from the table, but it is very large, given the many sizes. Therefore, it is much easier to do this with a simple calculation:
M (mass per meter) = D (outer diameter) * T (wall thickness) * 0.025.
For example, the weight of a stainless pipe with a diameter of 60 mm and a wall thickness of 4 mm, calculated by this formula, will be equal to 60 * 4 * 0.025 = 6 kg.
Scope of use
The cross section of the profile "stainless steel" can be not only round - it can be oval, square and rectangular. The profile pipe is rarely used for transporting liquids - most often such a profile is used as a structural element of fences and frames of a different nature. The technical parameters of such a material are very similar to pipe ones, therefore such materials are usually classified as profiled, but with a different section shape.
If we talk about the use of stainless steel pipe profile at home, then you can make the same register for heating yourself, which is often installed for utility rooms - the service life is not less than that of polymers and at the same time excellent heat transfer.
You can also self-weld stainless steel stair rails (although they can be purchased in finished form), and then simply assemble them for your porch or stairs.
It is noteworthy that a simple dryer from one pipe, curved by a snake, is very expensive, but the owner, who is well acquainted with plumbing, using a pipe bender and welding, can make such a device with his own hands.
