How to fix a leak in the toilet on the sink
Properly working in the house plumber brings the owner the pleasure of use. While all devices are working, no matter how they are noticed and do not think about them. But it is worth at least one device to break down, in the house you certainly feel uncomfortable. Take, for example, a toilet. Without this device is difficult to do. Clearly, if it breaks, or flows somewhere outside, we immediately undertake the repair. But here is the situation: a leak occurred on the sink. Well, the water runs down the drain and let it run. No, it's not that simple. Increased water consumption, for which you have to pay. Neighbors begin to complain about the constant noise of water in the sewer riser. So it's time to repair the toilet drain. Repair can be done in two ways:
- Call the plumbing at home. This procedure is not cheap, and it will take a lot of time waiting for repairs.
- Perform repairs yourself, saving money and time.
So, if you decide to do the repair yourself, then there is nothing complicated about it. In this article we will look at how to fix a leak in the toilet on the sink.
Preparation for repair
- First of all, turn off the water supply to the toilet bowl in order to avoid flooding the apartment;
- Open the tank cover, inspect all parts, and determine which of them broke;
- Prepare all the tools and spare parts needed for the repair.
Most often, the drain mechanism of the tank is not very complicated. Understand the principle of his work and look at all its details. And now, let's consider the probable causes of failure and their elimination.
Troubleshooting
First of all, inspect the entire toilet, tank mounting and the device itself. Sometimes, due to a weaker attachment, all connections are loosened, and a leak appears. This problem is easily fixed by pulling up all the fasteners.
But it is not always possible to get off so easily. If water continues to flow from the drain, then you should still open the tank and deal with the problem. The cover should be opened carefully so as not to break it. At the top of the lid there is a drain button, which by design can be connected with a drain mechanism by a kind of trap, usually a chain. Therefore, before removing the cover, first lift it, and if this is so in your case, then disconnect the craving from the mechanism. Now the cover can be removed.
After removing the cover, carefully inspect the entire mechanism of the tank, especially the pear. Due to the long time of use, the pear can be deformed and loosely overlap the tank drain. Therefore, between the nest plum and pear formed a constant leak. The best option is, of course, to buy a new pear and replace it. You can use the old, but it must first be leveled. For this, in the middle of the pear it is necessary to push any material tightly and level it.
But here's the situation: the pear is flat, but the water still seeps into the drain. This may be due to the low weight of the pear itself. To weight the pear, simply add extra weight to the cravings, such as a metal nut.
It happens that the design of the discharge mechanism does not provide for a pear, but works with the help of a valve connected with a plunge-push button. In this case, look at the drain socket and rubber valve ring. Bumps may form on the nest, so that the valve ring will not fit snugly, forming a leak. Tip on the rubber ring valve. It can also warp and pass water from time to time. In this case, no options: the ring must be replaced.
There are many different designs of drain mechanisms on the modern building materials market. But the principle of their device is one thing: the drain button on the lid is connected to the mechanism itself. Because of the diversity of models, it can be a chain, pushers or some other kind of traction, but, most importantly, they are all regulated. So pay attention to this. Due to improper adjustment, the valve may not completely block the drain hole and allow water to flow through. Try to adjust the mechanism. Maybe it was he who caused the leak.
The old mechanism may leak due to rust buildup. If you do not want to replace it with a new one, carefully disassemble the entire mechanism and clean it of rust. Sand seat drainage with sandpaper.
In the drain mechanism there is a float that regulates the level of water in the tank. It happens that it can twist, and the water will constantly flow in the toilet, and the drain tank remains half empty. The solution is quite simple: you need to fix the float and set it in its place.
The inability to set the float in place may be associated with a violation of the mounting float with a lever. To do this, simply return the float to its place.
If, as a result of the inspection, they found out that the whole mechanism is intact and clean, and the water still flows, then the whole problem is in the exhaust valve. It will have to be replaced. The mechanism of the drain tank has two valves: one inlet and the other inlet. But they are always sold in the kit. Buy valves of the same model as yours and replace. When replacing, be sure to lubricate the gaskets with sealant to prevent leakage of connections.
As mentioned above, the models of mechanisms are different, but their essence is the same. And it’s easy to figure out the problem and eliminate it.
