The proper functioning of the heating and water supply systems is one of the primary tasks that must be ensured by every home owner. In the case of laying new lines of communication and high-quality work, this issue may not worry for long enough. However, time is inexorable, and sooner or later, under the influence of external factors or the influence of water, the pipes will begin to flow. In this regard, let's find out how to put the clamp on the pipe. On the technology of the above works and will be discussed further.

Definitions and applications

Disassembled clamp

Before proceeding to the direct consideration of the installation of the hose clamp on the pipe, it is necessary to figure out what this auxiliary element of plumbing is. Clamp is called a special device designed to seal the holes in the pipes and eliminate leaks. Clamps can also be additionally equipped with joints of pipeline segments for additional sealing.

Repair clamp

With regard to applications, it may be noted:

  • The appearance of fistulas in the pipe wall. This may occur as a result of corrosion on the walls.
  • The appearance of cracks in the pipes. Arise both in violation of the rules of installation, and as a result of manufacturing defects.
  • The appearance of fractures on the pipes. This can be observed in violation of the technology of mounting pipes.
  • The occurrence of a leak in the joints. May occur as a result of improper installation or natural wear of the seal.

As for the device element, the clamp is a two metal half-rings, connected together by bolts and nuts. On the internal radius of the clamp, a rubber seal is usually mounted, having a width slightly larger than the metal part.

Assembly process

Dress the pipe clamp

As for the installation of the clamp, for example, on the heating pipe, everything is pretty simple. Actions for maximum efficiency are best carried out in stages:

  • First, it is necessary to block the flow of water (in this case serving as a coolant) into the pipe.
  • Further, the installation site of the clamp must be cleaned and leveled for maximum sealing in the future. For these purposes, suitable sandpaper, which you want to remove the top layer of paint. Thus, not only the surface is leveled, but the place of localization of the damage will also become more clearly visible.
  • After this, the clamp is installed. For this purpose, the fastening on one side is unwound, and the half rings are slightly divorced in different directions so that the element can be put on the pipe. In this case, the rubber seal should be positioned so that the leakage site is located in the middle of the rubber part.
  • Next, the clamp fasteners are inserted into the eyelet holes, and the element is tightened with keys.

Leaking fixed

If all stages of work were carried out correctly, then the leak will be eliminated. Most clearly it will be noticeable if the overlap of water was not made. In addition, it should be added that for additional sealing of the joint, the inner surface of the rubber seal of the clamp can be treated with silicone sealant, which after polymerization will give almost complete confidence in the density of the joint.

Clamp manufacture

Homemade clamps for pipes of different diameters

If for any reason the purchase of a yoke in a specialized store is not possible, the issue can be solved with the help of self-made element. To do this, do the following:

  • It is necessary to take a strip of galvanized tin of the necessary width and thickness of about 1 mm.
  • With the help of a flexible tape measure, the circumference of the pipe is measured and to this indicator is added 3-4 cm on each side of the strip, necessary for the manufacture of lugs for fastening.
  • The strip of the length obtained earlier is cut off from the sheet and divided into two parts (you can make a one-piece clamp from one strip).
  • Blanks are bent to the required shape. Work can be carried out both directly on site, and using a pipe section of the same diameter as a model.
  • On each side of the obtained half-rings, the ears necessary for fastening are bent with the help of pliers. They are drilled holes.
  • As a sealant, you can use a simple rubber with a thickness of 3 mm.
  • The resulting clamp and seal are mounted in place similar to the factory version.

Homemade yoke

It should be noted that such an option with proper and high-quality manufacturing and installation will differ little from the factory analogue, and therefore can be successfully used for installation, for example, on a water pipe.

Sometimes a type of hose clamp can be used to seal the joints of pipes used in garden work. For example, the use of irrigation systems of different complexity is impossible without a tight connection of elements. Such clamps are generally similar in construction to the above-mentioned parts, but lack a sealing element.

Regarding the cost of a water hose clamp, it should be said that the price can be quite different depending on the complexity of the design, the material of manufacture, the manufacturer and many other factors.

As can be seen from the above, the installation of the clamp on the water pipe is not too difficult for the independent implementation of the task. It is important to understand that this is a temporary measure, which is not a panacea, but it is quite suitable as a measure to promptly solve a problem.

Clamp for sewer pipe

Clamp for sewer pipe

Although the pressure of the liquid in sewer pipes is much less, the leakage that has occurred can also cause a lot of trouble. In this case, you can purchase and install clamps for sewer pipes.

For thin-walled plastic sewer pipes, it is better not to use improvised hose clamps, as they do not have the correct form and, instead of solving the issue of elimination, leaks will bring even greater problems, in the form of a crack or complete failure of the pipeline.
