Having bought a new unit for washing clothes in the home appliance store, I want to try it out as quickly as possible. To do this, you need to know how to connect the washing machine to the sewer and water supply. Of course, you can call a master who will do everything without your participation, but it is faster and cheaper to carry out the procedure yourself.

After buying a washing machine should be properly connected

Choosing a place to install

Many users do not pay proper attention to the issue of choosing a place to install the unit. This is fundamentally wrong, as it can lead to violations in the process of washing and ultimately breaking the product. Therefore, connecting the washing machine to the sewage system with your own hands should begin with this process (see also the article Polypropylene sewer pipes - an innovative solution in the field of plumbing).

There are several most popular places:

  1. In the bathroom. This is the standard option, which is used in most cases.
  2. In the kitchen. Suitable in the case when the area of the bathroom is too small to accommodate a washing machine.
  3. In the hall. One of the unusual options. In this case, you need to solve the question of how to connect the washing machine to the sewage system and water supply, because, as a rule, such premises are not equipped with such engineering networks.
The kitchen is a good place to install a washing machine.

Independent installation of the washing machine

Step 1. Unpacking

After delivery of the purchased product should remove the cardboard packaging and remove the items that served to ensure the safety of the machine during transport. Installation instructions also require the removal of special mounting bolts that hold the drum assembly. The remaining holes should be protected with plugs to prevent moisture from entering the interior of the washing machine.

Remember to remove the shipping bolts.

Note! If you connect the washer to the sewer and water supply without removing the bolts, it may damage the drum during operation. This case does not fall under the warranty obligations of the manufacturer, and you will carry out repairs at your own expense. Its price is sometimes equal to the cost of a new product.

Step 2. Drain System

Connecting a washing machine to the sewer requires compliance with certain rules:

  1. Some units are not equipped with a check valve that prevents water from being drained from the sewer.. Therefore, the outlet must be located at a certain distance from the device and the correct height from the floor. All parameters are specified in the documentation attached to the washing machine.
  2. If the drain system in your home is not equipped with special fittings for various household appliances, you will additionally need a siphon to connect the washing machine to the sewer.  It is cut into the drainage system of water from the sink, thereby providing a reliable connection that prevents leakage.

  1. The easiest way is to fasten the drain pipe of the machine on the edge of a bathtub or sink.. It is better not to use it due to low reliability. A hose falling to the floor can cause flooding in the apartment.
  2. After the installation is completed, check that the drain does not have bends that impede the passage of water.. In case a longer hose is needed, it is necessary to use additional elements joined with adapters with clamps.

Tip! The most reliable scheme of connecting the washing machine to the sewage is the equipment of a stationary individual drain. In this case, the highest reliability of the connection is achieved. You will not worry about leaks characteristic of temporary connections.

Step 3. Water supply

Proper connection of the washing machine to the sewer does not ensure the operation of the unit. Clean water is required for washing. In this regard, the next step of the installation is to ensure its supply to the inlet of the machine.

To do this, use special flexible hoses of the desired size, as well as rubber seals to ensure tightness.

There are two main ways:

  • using a separate valve;
  • through the tap mixer.

 Consider the features of the first option:

  1. To install the faucet in the plumbing system of metal pipes, you should choose a suitable place and embed the fittings there with the help of threaded connections. In the case when the water supply system in the apartment is made of plastic, the appropriate fittings are used to connect the tap. Before washing and after it is finished, the faucet, respectively, is opened and closed, reducing the load on the inlet valve of the unit.

Tip! In the scheme, you can additionally include a filter that protects the washing machine from falling into it of particles of debris. Do not forget to periodically clear this node.

  1.  To connect the tap, it is advisable to use ready-made drainage systems to the cistern or shower. At the end of the pipe is installed tee, allowing you to connect two consumers.
Tee can be bumped into the water
  1. You can use the hose to the mixer. This is not the best option, because before each wash you will need to unscrew and re-screw it to the incoming holes of the machine or tap.

Regarding the second option, you should pay attention to the following:

  • This method allows you to connect as quickly as possible (with the appropriate fittings, the whole process takes no more than 5 minutes);
  • the machine will be protected from leakage, as after using the water supply valve is closed.

Step 4. Adjusting the legs

It was mentioned above that before you connect the washer to the sewer and water supply, you should choose a place to install it. After installation, all pipelines should be checked to ensure that the device is as stable as possible. This will reduce the level of vibration and save the unit from damage.

For leveling it is not necessary to place pieces of linoleum, wood or plastic under the stands of the washing machine. For this purpose, legs of varying length and a special key are used.

It is used to select a stable position. If you click on one of the corners, you feel the vibrations of the washer, the alignment procedure should be repeated.

Step 5. Power Grid

The last important stage is the connection to electricity.

This process also has certain features:

  1. Connection must be made to a grounded outlet. For its arrangement will require a three-core cable: phase, zero and ground.
  2. If the apartment grid is not grounded, you should independently carry out this procedure using a wire with a cross section of at least 3 mm.
  3. Remember to isolate all connections properly.

Note! It is forbidden to connect the ground cable to the central heating batteries, water pipes and gas pipeline. This can cause serious accidents.

Testing

At the end of all work, it is imperative to carry out a test run of the washing machine.

During unit operation, check the following values:

  • tank filling speed and water mark;
  • no leakage at all connections;
  • drum rotation;
  • water heating (the temperature of the liquid should rise after 5-10 minutes from the start of the washing procedure);
  • the functioning of the drain;
  • no extraneous sounds.
The final stage - testing
