Insertion into the sewer pipe
Having bought a new plumbing and installing it in its place, you should connect it to the sewage system. Well, if in the riser or pipe already have a finished pipe. And what if it is not? In this case, a tie-in is carried out in the sewer pipe. And how to do this, we will tell in this article.
Preliminary stage

Before crashing into the sewer system, you need to prepare. First, warn the neighbors above (if you live in a high-rise building). Otherwise, there may be a small stream of sewage. Prepare a bowl and a rag, because dirt cannot be avoided.
Secondly, stock up with the necessary tool and material:
- If the insert in the cast-iron pipe, then find the impeller with a stone on the metal. You can try to use the techniques of an experienced locksmith. He makes a notch with a chisel and knocks out the desired piece of pipe. But such work requires skills, so it’s better not to take risks and prepare the necessary apparatus.
- If the pipe is made of PVC, then you can do with a regular knife for metal or wood.
- Prepare the file, it will need to remove the burrs on the cut.
- Depending on the type of tie-in, prepare a tee or adapter.
- Compensating pipe.
- Silicone sealant.

Also determine the exact location of the tie-in. Remember that the pipe must be inclined so that the drains do not stagnate. The slope is 2–3 cm per meter of communications (depending on the diameter of the pipe). Therefore, first perform a fitting and mark the entry point.
We hit with a tee

Insertion into a plastic pipe or its cast-iron analogue follows a similar scenario. The first thing cut a piece of pipeline. Its size must exactly match the size of the compensating pipe and tee.
The tee itself is best purchased from plastic, it will be easier to assemble. Such designs may have a bend of the same or smaller diameter, be straight or with a slope. All three outlet tees should have a neck and sealing rings.
The progress of the inset in the sewer pipe will look like this:
- With the help of a hacksaw (plastic pipes) or impellers (if the products are made of cast iron), we cut out the section marked in advance. In this case, be prepared for an unpleasant smell and a small amount of waste that may rush out of the system.
- Next, with the help of a file, we remove the burrs from the cuts (they will appear on both the cast iron and plastic pipes).
- Apply a layer of sealant on the outer side of the upper section of the pipeline.
- After this, we tighten the compensating pipe on the upper cut of the pipe.
- Then we grease with a sealant the pipe (its narrow side) and the lower section of the main pipe.
- Next, set the tee. Lower the bell to the stretch sewer pipe, and insert the upper side of the narrow side of the compensating pipe.
After that, you can connect the pipe from the new plumbing to the side outlet of the tee. Check on what the top (if it is the riser) section of the main pipe rests on. If the only fastening is a tee socket, then you need to buy a yoke and additionally fix the riser.
This method can be used when connecting to the riser, and to a horizontal pipe. In the second case, the work is easier to perform, especially if the communication is plastic. Simply enough to disassemble the desired section, cut a piece of pipe and insert the tee.
We make a sidebar using the adapter

Quite often it is not possible to cut a piece of pipe, for example, if the communications are close to the wall or partially embedded in them. In this case, it is better to use a special adapter. This sidebar can be done on a plastic pipe. The adapter itself is a special cap with a tap. But such a device can be used only if the connected pipe is smaller in diameter of the main pipeline.
Progress will be as follows:
- Pre-markup. It is necessary that the pipe from the plumbing unit was sloped.
- The place where the tie-in will be held must be cleaned of dirt and dried.
- Using a core drill, make a hole corresponding to the diameter of the adapter. If the pipe where the tie-in will be carried out has a cross section of 110 mm, then the hole must be strictly 50 mm.
- The adapter is covered with silicone sealant and inserted into the hole.
- After that, a rubber adapter is inserted in the form of a cuff and you can connect the pipe from the plumbing.
This method is considered undesirable. The fact is that burrs remain inside the main pipe. For them, the solid fractions of the effluent will definitely begin to catch on, leading to clogging. This is especially true if the tie-in occurs in the sewer riser in a high-rise building.
