Different types and sizes of ventilation grilles

Ventilation

Most devices for natural and forced air exchange do not go without protection from foreign elements getting into the channels, as a rule, this is a ventilation grille of 100x100 mm, 200200 mm or with other sizes, which can be made of different materials.

The sizes, first of all, depend on the section of the air channel, but we often choose the material ourselves, although in some cases there are strict instructions on this matter. Now we will tell more about such ancillary elements and show you the video in this article for clarity.

Lattices

Note. Protective devices, such as a ventilation grill 150 by 150 or with large dimensions, are mounted on the ventilation windows to prevent the entry of foreign elements in both directions. Most of them are equipped with mosquito nets that protect the room from the entry of insects through the ventilation ducts.

What types and types of ventilation are they required for?

Plastic vent grille 100 by 100 and other sizes
  • First of all, you should be aware that protective grilles, as such, are not needed for all types of ventilation and related equipment, but first we will look at what kind of ventilation is possible.
  • If air circulation occurs unilaterally, then this means a supply or exhaust system, although a double variant is also possible, where the supply and exhaust system is possible.
  • In addition, the air flow can move naturally or under duress (mechanically), for which a variety of types of electric fans are used - axial and radial.
  • In addition, ventilation systems are of general and local purpose - for the local purpose, the grilles, as a rule, are not used and if some kind of protective barrier is needed there, then a plastic or metal mosquito net is usually used for this.
  • Also, a ventilation grill of 600 by 600, but even more often of rectangular shape is necessary for the circulation of hot air in fireplaces. Here, convection air heating takes place and it is installed between the fireplace hall and the convector duct. Such grilles are installed both from below and from above, that is, at the inlet and at the outlet of the air flow.
  • In addition, in the exhaust ventilation in rooms with high ceilings, so-called anemostats are used, which are the end point of the distribution of the air flow.

Materials

Aluminum ventilation grille 400 for 400 with electroplated coating

If we talk about quality, then for decorative purposes usually use non-ferrous metals - copper and aluminum, although this is done more often from aluminum, because in addition to openwork ornament, this material makes single-row and double-row, adjustable and unregulated grilles with blinds.

The demand for this metal for the production of such products directly depends on its anti-corrosion qualities, low specific gravity and ease of processing. Of course, you can also find an openwork ornament made of cast iron, but this applies more to rare products and is extremely rare in our time.

For industrial premises and public buildings, it is also much more practical to use steel and aluminum, and the main role here is played not by the cost of the material, but by its strength. For example, a ventilation grill of 600x600 mm from plastic will sag, and if it is set at the level of human growth, then it can simply be broken by negligence.

Adjustable ventilation grill 250 250 galvanized steel

Not only blinds are subject to adjustment, but also devices with a latch, so in the upper photo you see just such a product made of galvanized sheet steel - it is most often used for installation from the outside of the building, although it happens that the installation is appropriate and inside is a storage room, utility and industrial premises.

Decorative plaster ventilation grille 125 to 125

Also, for decorative decoration, the openwork ventilation grilles made of plaster or wood look very good. Of course, it is impossible for them to regulate the intensity of the air flow, but for a supply and exhaust system they are excellent.

Of course, plastic is most often used for domestic purposes, and that is what we most often see on the exhaust windows of bathrooms and toilets, small shops of offices, study rooms, and so on. As a rule, such products are made in the form of a rigid frame with movable (adjustable), and most often immovable blinds, although it is possible to meet the construction with an adjustable damper, only the shape of the product will be round here.

Dimensions

Geometrical solutions of the STANDART series

Geometric shapes, color and size of products, which are discussed in this article, can be completely different from each other. In addition to the square and rectangle, you can often find a circle, and a little less often an octagon, oval, semi-oval, and sometimes even a triangle. Below you can see a table with the most popular sizes for aluminum grilles with louvers of the VP-NN series.

Note. In this table you see the geometric parameters of the lattices in the extreme left vertical and in the upper horizontal. The fact that between them (most of the table) is the approximate cost for 2014 in rubles.

Anemostats

Anemostatnaya (diffuser) grille

Anemostats are used for inlet, exhaust and intake-exhaust ventilation and they most often have a round shape with a diameter of 100-125 mm, although, as you can see, looking at the top photo, it can be a square.

Such devices are able to regulate the intensity of the air flow and it is installed on the window of the channel either on the ceiling or on the wall. As a rule, the instruction allows the use of anemostats in rooms up to 4 m in height - with higher ceilings they will be ineffective.

Fireplaces

Air grids for fireplaces

When choosing such a device for the fireplace in any case, you will have to pay attention to the size. Moreover, in the foreground here is not only the outer perimeter, but also on the actual area of the holes, although the latter parameters, of course, are not indicated in the accompanying documents.

But it will not be difficult for you to take these readings on your own using the most common metric tape. If you know the cross-sectional area of the holes, you can follow the recommendations of the company for the production and installation of fireplaces.

Conclusion

As a rule, the design features of ventilation grilles are quite simple and you can always install any of them with your own hands. But the matter is not only in the installation - you will also need to choose the right dimensions, the optimally suitable material, the status of adjustability, a certain shape and design that fits best with this object.
