Steam room ventilation - device and features
High-quality air exchange is one of the main conditions for a comfortable stay in the steam bath. After all, too dry air or a surplus of carbon dioxide can be harmful to health. Therefore, below we will look at how to properly organize the ventilation of a steam bath of a Russian bath.

Why do we need ventilation in the steam room
The opinion that the main parameter for proper soaring is high temperature is not true. The fact is that with poor ventilation, the air in the room becomes very hot, as a result of which it becomes impossible to stay in it. In addition, the lack of airing will lead to the appearance of mold and the rapid deterioration of the finishing of the steam room.
At the same time, if the air exchange is excessive, it will lead to a rapid outflow of air and the cooling of the room. Thus, proper ventilation allows to ensure even distribution of heat and avoid many problems. So, the issue of its arrangement should be given no less attention than heating or, for example, finishing.

Types of ventilation schemes
Ventilation of the required intensity can be implemented in two ways:
- Natural - air exchange is provided due to the temperature difference in the room and outside. Circulation in this case is carried out through the ventilation openings and channels, as well as natural gaps. This option is great for paired small area.
- Mechanical - the inflow and outflow of air is provided with the help of special equipment. This method is the only best option for ventilation of large areas, especially if the bath is built of brick or made in the form of a frame structure.
It must be said that the need for a compulsory system may manifest itself during the operation of the bath.
This may indicate:
- Condensation on the walls.
- The appearance on the wooden surfaces of fungus and mold.
- The appearance of an unpleasant odor in the room.
In this case, you can install the fan on the supply or exhaust hole. Moreover, there is a special equipment that works automatically, providing the most optimal conditions in the steam room. True, the price of such devices is quite high.

Features of the device
Natural ventilation
Regardless of the way in which the ventilation system is implemented, in order for it to be of high quality, it is necessary to make up a proper scheme with your own hands or use existing projects. This is due to the fact that the air must affect all air masses in the room.
For example, if the ventilation holes are located below each other, they will create a closed flow, with the result that the main part of the air masses will be unaffected. As a result, it will always be cold at the bottom of the steam room, and always hot at the top.
Therefore, the best option is considered to be the ventilation scheme in the steam room, when the inlet is located below the stove and the exhaust vent is on the opposite wall under the ceiling. I must say that in addition to the location of the holes, their diameter is of great importance, which is calculated depending on the size of the steam room. For each cubic meter of space, 24 square centimeters of air inlet must be provided.

Note! Air vents must be equipped with valves that allow you to adjust the air flow or, if necessary, completely shut off the system.
Forced
Forced ventilation of the steam bath also requires the correct layout of the supply and exhaust holes, although it gives more freedom when choosing their location. For example, you can even get effective air exchange by placing a hole on one wall.

Of great importance in this case is the choice of equipment. First of all, it should be said that not every fan will be able to work in conditions of high temperature and humidity. Therefore, equipment must be designed specifically for the steam room.
Note! According to the requirements of SanPin 2.1.2.1002-00, the air in the steam room for an hour should change completely three times.
I must say that experts do not recommend combining the ventilation system in the steam room with other rooms of the bath. In addition, it is not advisable to perform air intake from other rooms. Those. The air inlet should be located on the external load-bearing wall.
Moreover, the air flow should be carried out directly from the street, and not from the subfloor; otherwise, an unpleasant musty smell may appear in the room. But the hood can be implemented through the underground, which will make it ventilated.

Tip! If the furnace is located inside the steam room, the hood can be implemented through the chimney, as shown in diagram B.
Here, perhaps, is the whole basic instruction on the arrangement of air exchange in a steam bath, which is based on SNiP 01/01/2008.
Conclusion
Ventilation is an essential element of a steam bath. Moreover, in order for the system to be effective, in its implementation it is necessary to observe a number of rules that are given above (see also the article Ventilation in the bath with your own hands: 5 most popular implementation options).
