What are adjustable grilles for ventilation

Ventilation

Regardless of how the main ventilation channels are installed in your house (vertical or horizontal shafts, plastic sewer pipes or direct access to the street), adjustable ventilation louvers will always be out of place.

Their advantage is clearly already adjectively adjustable, that is, you can change the intensity of the air flow or even block it. Let's find out what these grids are all about, in what cases it is appropriate to put them, and to help - a demonstration of the video in this article.

Adjustable grilles

Note. The word blinds takes its origin from the French jalousie, which means jealousy - so jealous husbands closed the windows so that no one could see his wife looking at him. The assembly consists of vertical or horizontal lamellae, which, rotating along its axis, can open or close the passage of light, air or liquid.

But the capacity adjustment of the ventilation grill can also be carried out using a valve.

Range

The inexpensive single-row model ES-KON EMT-U 100-200 (less than $ 3) is made of aluminum, has vertical louvers. Its height together with flanging is 200 mm, and its width is 100 mm, mounted on four screws. This rectangular design weighs 1kg and is perfect for home and office toilets, storerooms, and living rooms.

The more expensive single-row model ES-KON EMT-U 100-200 (its price is about 8 times more) is made of aluminum, has vertical blinds, but there is a damper here that will eliminate the rattling even in strong winds. Its height together with flanging is 450 mm, and its width is 600 mm, mounted on four screws. This rectangular design weighs 1kg and is perfect for home and office toilets, storerooms, and living rooms.

EMT-R-UP 100-500

The convex single-row grille EMT-R-UP 100-500 is made of aluminum, has vertical blinds, which are fixed by a damper, which means that there will be no rattling even in strong winds.

Its height together with flanging is 100 mm, and its width is 500 mm, mounted on four screws. This rectangular design weighs 1kg and is perfect for home and office toilets, storerooms, and living rooms.

The two-row Vents DR 800250 model is made of aluminum, has vertical blinds, which are fixed by a damper, which means that there will not be any rattling even with strong winds, besides, two rows of blinds will ensure good constipation.

Its height together with flanging is 800 mm, and its width is 250 mm, it is mounted on screws. This rectangular design weighs 1.2kg and is perfect for home and office toilets, storerooms, and living rooms.

Galvanized steel grill

For garages and outbuildings, as well as for milestones of premises where there is no heating, it is very convenient to use a cheap (cost within $ 1) galvanized steel adjustable grille, where the intensity of the air flow is regulated by the valve.

The parameters of this design are 170x160x50 mm and it can be installed both inside and outside, but the best effect from it will be if you install it from two sides - an air plug is created that does not allow cold to penetrate inside and heat to the outside. Its installation manual provides for the manufacture of screws.

Note. It should be noted that plastic adjustable ventilation grilles are quite rare, and we, therefore, have not considered any models. The reason for this unpopularity is that metal louvers and latches are much more reliable, since they are often in a mobile state.

The need for adjustment

ESS-U
  • Are ventilating grilles with adjustable louvers everywhere needed or, more precisely, where does it make sense to install such structures? If we talk about the ventilation window, which is simply hacked into the wall and does not have any curved channels, then in such cases the need to adjust or temporarily block the air flow is simply obvious.. Such direct communication with the street can adversely affect the microclimate of the room, for example, cold or hot air (especially in windy weather) and even precipitation can easily penetrate through the openings.
  • But is it necessary to adjust the air flow in an apartment or house where rooms are ventilated through a common shaft or pillar? Common sense dictates that this is necessary, but again, the benefits of an adjustable grid can be questioned here.
  • General ventilation systems, especially in old houses, are often half full of debris and the traction in them is very weak, so in some cases you cannot do without an exhaust fan at all. In that case, why control the ventilation duct where there is no traction?

Note. Of course, in such situations it may be necessary to clean this channel, especially the pipes on the roof - there may be the largest accumulation of debris. Most often, the culprits of the blockage are birds that manage to penetrate through the windows to get warm. Not everyone can get back, and they die there, forming a traffic jam.

Conclusion

It is quite simple to install an adjustable grille with blinds or flap with your own hands, you just need to pick up screws and dowels for fastening, and drill holes in the wall. But this fixation should be reliable, since in the closed position the structure has a large sail area.
