Fire hydrant in the well - installation rules
Fire hydrants are an important element in protecting buildings and all property from fire. If a fire occurs, only quick extinguishing will minimize losses, and possibly save lives. Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure trouble-free operation of the hydrant and quick access to it.

Therefore, to combat the fire, it is planned to build a special fire-fighting pipeline. Water is taken from it with the help of fire wells with hydrants. The distance between these wells is determined by SNiP 2.04.02-84.
Next, we look at how to install a fire hydrant in the well in accordance with all requirements.
General information
What is a hydrant
Structurally, this device is a conventional water hose clamp or shutter, which in the lateral outlet has a shut-off equipment that can be subjected to pressure of the water supply system for a long time. In addition, a feature of the device is that for many years it may not be used, and at the same time maintain its performance.
A thread has been applied to the upper part of the side outlet, which is intended for screwing the intake device. As a rule, the threaded part is closed with a lid. Fire or other water intake system is connected to the device immediately before operation.

Today, fire structures are used that comply with GOST 8220 85. They are suitable for connection to a centralized plumbing system of any type.
Installation of a hydrant in the well is carried out on a special stand, which is a steel or cast iron tee, equipped with a mounting platform. The device itself is fixed on a waterproof gasket using a bolted connection.

Principle of operation
When you turn the hydrant rod, it presses the valve and moves it down, which opens the way for water. For the valve to open fully, the boom must rotate 360 degrees 15 times.
The device is brought to a working condition with the help of a key for a fire column type KPA, which is a screw mechanism equipped with taps for connecting hoses. I must say that this equipment can work not only as an independent fire-fighting means, but also as power sources for fire engines.

Note! Structures that are designed for installation in flooded wells, should have a check valve in the drain hole, which provides tightness against the ingress of groundwater.
Fundamental rules
Before considering installation of the device, it is necessary to become familiar with the rules governing this process:
- Installation of fire hydrants in the well should be done at a distance of 50-100 m to any wall of the building.
- The diameter of the water supply should be between 100 mm and more. For rural areas, a diameter of at least 75 mm is allowed.
- The laying of fire hoses on a solid surface must be taken into account.
- The distance between the wells should be determined in accordance with the total water consumption for extinguishing the fire, the capacity of the device and the height of the building.
- The device should be located at a distance of no more than 2.5 meters from the edge of the road, but at the same time, no closer than 5 meters from the wall of the building.
- The device is installed vertically, while its centerline should be no closer than 175 mm from the wall of the hatch neck.
- The distance from the hatch to the riser should be no more than 40 cm and not less than 15 cm.
- The well cover must always be closed. Opening the hatch is carried out using special hooks.

Note! When you open the lid of the well, it is strictly forbidden to smoke while the combustible gases can accumulate in the well.
Fire hydrant installation
Immediately it should be said that installing a hydrant with your own hands is quite difficult, since it has a lot of weight. In addition, it should be borne in mind that this work is very responsible.
When installing a hydrant, it is important to choose the right height, which depends on the depth of the pipeline.
The height can be different - from 1125 mm to 3500 mm, depending on this, the price of the equipment may vary.

The short installation instructions are as follows:
- First of all, the stand is mounted, which should be positioned strictly vertically. At the same time, it should be securely fixed. The stand can be welded or bolted.
- Then on the built-in stand, by means of a flange connection, a vertical stand of the hydrant is installed, which is equipped with a welded flange or a welded flange by-catch. Tightness is ensured by a special gasket made of synthetic or modified rubber.
- To insulate the device in winter, as well as to protect the well from snow drift, a special pyramid-like structure should be installed on top, covered with foam plastic from the inside.
At this installation work completed.
Conclusion
The hydrant is an extremely important element for providing buildings with fire safety. However, in order for the device to function as it should and always be ready for emergency situations, it is necessary to strictly follow the installation guidelines given above.
