A pool in your own backyard is a luxury that many dream of. Why luxury? Because the displacement of the pools is large, and the cube of water is expensive. For this water requires constant care, which means that it is necessary to clean it several times a day. The installation and maintenance of the cleaning system is also an expense. But they can not do without. If the pool water is not systematically cleaned several times a day, then in the very near future it will begin to bloom, and bathing in this case may pose a threat to health. This article will discuss how to choose a filter for the pool.

What to clean

Pool cleaning

To maintain the purity of water there are filter installations. They differ from each other cleansing element that fills the filter. There are three main filters: sand, cartridge and diatomaceous. Each has its own advantages and purpose. All these filters make water purification mechanically. Any filter installation necessarily includes a pump that pumps water from the pool to the filter. After cleaning the water again enters the tank.

Sand filter

It is a fairly impressive size tank with sand. Used crushed quartz sand. There are models in which there is gravel in front of a layer of sand, and a layer of carbon-anthracite after quartz sand. Glass and silver sand are also used. In this way, you can quickly clean the water from large and small particles. This is the cheapest cleaning option, but very cumbersome. Such a filtration system is suitable for large stationary pools. For small and inflatable it is too powerful device.

Cartridge filter

This system purifies water by passing it through a membrane cartridge. It is installed next to the tank, has a compact size. It can be masked if desired. There are models that can be mounted on the side of the pool. All cartridge filters are easy to use and effective in small baths, which are rarely used and a small number of people. The size of the membrane cells is five to ten microns, which allows you to sufficiently clean water up to three times a day. The cost of such a cleaning system is somewhat higher, but not the highest.

Diatom filter

This is the most expensive, but also the most effective way to clean water in the pool. The cleansing element is microscopic particles of fossil algae and radiolarians, which have been accumulating for centuries on the ocean floor. Since diatomaceous earth has very small cell sizes — one to three microns, it retains most of the suspensions and bacteria. Still water after such a filtration is called silicon water. It has a rejuvenating effect, strengthens the immune system, improves the condition of hair, nails and skin. The use of such filters significantly reduces the use of chemistry in the care of a water tank.

How to make the right choice

How to choose a suitable filter for the pool

To obtain the desired degree of water purification, you need to know how to choose the right device for cleaning the pool. It should be borne in mind that the speed of the water that is supplied for cleaning into the filter should not be too high or very slow; the volume of the reservoir, the pump capacity and the filter capacity should be related to each other. For a sand purifier, too much water speed can turn into leaching some part of the sand into the pool. A cartridge filter at too high a water velocity will simply experience excessive pressure, which will result in poor cleaning. Too low speed of water will lead to the fact that during the day it will not be possible to clean it the necessary number of times.

Pump power is chosen depending on the filter capacity, and it is selected based on the volume of the pool. The standard calculation looks like this - the throughput capacity of the cleaning device should be a quarter of the tank volume (the pool volume is multiplied by two and a half and divided by ten).

When choosing a filtration system, one should also take into account the fact that:

  • Sand cleaning systems have great performance and size, so they are used in stationary large pools. Because of the large size of sand grains (twenty to twenty-five microns), this is the fastest type of filtration.
  • Cartridge cleaners are small in size, which allow you to install them in small fixed pools, inflatable pools. Ease and simplicity of operation allow to use them in life.
  • The diatom filter can also be mounted on household tanks. They are easy to operate, but not cheap. Their main advantage is a high degree of water purification and a health effect.

Before the construction of the pool, it will not be superfluous to consult with experts how to choose a filter so that the water in it meets hygienic requirements.

Proper care of filters

Washed filter

Any kind of filter needs to be periodically cleaned of dirt. Every ten days it is necessary to clean it by backwashing. In addition, the sand filter is additionally cleaned from the accumulated lime. Do it this way:

  • before back flushing, half a kilogram of a special substance that dissolves lime is poured into the skimmer drain channel;
  • briefly open the water, so that the substance fell into the sand;
  • sand with the substance is left for several hours to dissolve the lime;
  • after doing a long backwash until complete washing out of the chemistry.

Since filtration is a very important part of the basin system, which ultimately is responsible for the safety and health of those who use it, it is necessary to approach its choice very carefully.
