Sand cleaning - how to work independently

Water supply

Sometimes during the operation of the source in it the amount of water decreases sharply, it may even completely disappear. This is most often due to the silting of water intake, as a result of which water flows much more slowly. Many believe that it is impossible to clean the well from the sand with your own hands.

In fact, all the work can be done on your own, and the challenge of professionals is needed only in the most difficult cases. The cleaning process will take some time and effort, but you can save a lot of money, since services of this kind are not cheap.

Cleaning the well will improve water supply and improve water quality.

Reasons for the deterioration of the well

In 90% of cases, silting is the cause of problems, it can occur due to a number of reasons:

  • Often the well is clogged in sources that use a vibration pump with water intake from above, such a system provokes the formation of blockages.
  • When using a downhole filter that is smaller than the diameter of the pipe, the pump does not reach its lower point and is located 20-30 cm higher. Because of this, sand is collected at the fence, which over time can cause the work to stop.
  • If during drilling the aquifer was identified incorrectly and the pipe carries out a fence in the place of weak water inflow, then the system will silt very, very quickly.
  • If the well is used a little or only in the summer season, then sand and clay particles settle in it, eventually turning into dense layers, which worsen and sometimes block the water intake. It is best to use the well all the time, and if this is not possible, then in the summer you should use the source as often as possible.

Basic self cleaning methods

It should be noted that the cleaning of wells from sand can be carried out in several ways, depending on the type of source and its depth. Consider the most popular ones.

Cleaning well borehole

Many consider this method the most effective. It is made with the help of a special device, a yolk, it can be made independently, the price of materials is small.

On the left is a factory-type fixture, on the right is an improvised

The factory version has the following features:

  • It consists of a pipe with a diameter of 50-70 mm and a length of about 60 cm.
  • In the upper part there is a handle and a wire grid.
  • In the lower part there is a biconcave washer and several protrusions-canines for better raising the layer of silt from the bottom.
  • Inside there is a steel ball, which, when descending, rises by inertia, and then falls and closes the opening, due to which sand and silt remain in the structure.

You can make a similar device yourself, it may resemble a factory product, and it may be much simpler:

  • A pipe is taken, the thicker its walls, the less a piece is needed. A pen is made from above, the lattice is not needed, since there will be no ball.
  • Holes are drilled in the lower part so that a long bolt passes through them.
  • A plastic bottle is taken and the valve is cut out of a slightly larger size than the diameter of the pipe.
  • Next, the valve is inserted into the pipe petals up, as shown in the photo, is attached to the bolt with soft wire - the device is ready.

The process of using this device is quite time-consuming due to the considerable weight of the shells, but the quality of cleaning the well at the highest level.

So, the sequence of works is as follows:

  • First, a rope is attached to the handle or a strong rope of the desired length.
  • Next, the device is lowered into the well until it reaches the bottom, if its weight is large enough, you can descend through the block.
  • Next, the shell rises to 50-70 cm and is released to get hit on the bottom and rose silt and sand. At the moment of impact, the ball by inertia leaves, and the valve opens and water with impurities gets into the pipe. Having repeated this action 4-5 times, it is necessary to raise the structure to the surface and clean it.
  • This process is repeated the necessary number of times until you reach the firm foundation of the well, this is how the well is cleaned from sand.

Tip! The process is quite time-consuming, so you should invite an assistant.

Pump cleaning

Such cleaning of wells from sand is much easier and easier.

Consider how the work is carried out in this way:

  • First you need to purchase a small pump like “Baby” or “Streamlet” with a lower water intake.
  • After that, a hose of the appropriate diameter is fixed to the intake part; for greater reliability, it is better to use a metal clamp as shown in the figure.

Important note! Due to the pumping of dirty water, the piston in the pump can become unusable very quickly. Replacing it will not be a problem - the process is quite simple, the cost of spare parts is small.

Attachment of tubes to the pump
  • Next, you should insert a rigid hose or a piece of metal pipe into this tube and fix it well.
  • The assembled system is lowered into the source until it hits the bottom. After that, the pump rises by 5-10 cm and turns on. This way to make well cleaning is much easier.

Cleaning with two pumps

An even more efficient technique that can be used to clean a source very quickly..

The scheme of work with two pumps

The work is as follows:

  • First, a container with clean water is prepared; for this you can use a barrel.
  • Next, a hose is inserted into it through any strainer or bucket with holes and is attached to a flow pump, another hose is attached from it and lowered into the well to the very bottom. At the end of the load is attached, so that the hose does not rise.
  • After that, both pumps are started and the cleaning is performed. Due to the incoming water, sludge rises from the bottom and is sucked by a submersible pump, which supplies dirty water to the tank, where the dirt settles and the water is used further.

This is one of the most productive ways, with the help of which you will clean and efficiently clean your water intake, the instruction is quite simple, so almost any person will cope with the work.

other methods

If you do not have the time and opportunity, you should use the services of specialists. Sometimes a fire truck is used that pumps water under pressure and pushes out all the dirt. But this can damage parts of the system, and the price of this method is considerable.

Many people confuse the concept of "cleaning water from a well of sand" with cleaning from sludge. If there is sand in the water, it is enough to put a filter. The source does not need to be cleaned.

Conclusion

It is worth cleaning the well at the first signs of deterioration of water intake, so work will be much faster. The video in this article will help to better understand some points of the process.
